Job description

Who We Are

Prowess Consulting is a technology consultancy that helps some of the world’s largest technology enterprises define, manage, benchmark, and market their solutions and services. We invest the time to deeply understand our clients’ technologies, customers, and business objectives so we can help them develop the strategies and stories they need to succeed in the market. Our team of technology and marketing experts stays immersed in the trends shaping our clients’ businesses, enabling us to add value at every stage of an engagement. That same technology-first mindset applies internally: our people are highly technical and expect our systems to be fast, well designed, and secure by default. This role reports to the CISO and leads a small team, with the opportunity to shape and grow the function as business needs evolve. You will have end-to-end ownership of internal technology operations, including budgeting, vendor management, hiring, the platforms our teams rely on, and a defined set of security and compliance controls.

Who You Are

Prowess Consulting is hiring a dynamic and forward-thinking IT Manager to lead our internal technology operations.

This is a full-time, hybrid role that will require working from the Prowess office two days per week. To be considered for this role, you must reside in the greater Seattle area. No third-party agencies, please.

The Role and Responsibilities

  • Leadership of the help desk function for a distributed workforce across two primary sites (Washington, USA and Ahmedabad, India) and remote workers around the world, including service expectations the business can hold us to.

  • Microsoft 365 administration: Entra ID, Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, Teams, Intune, Purview and Defender.

  • Identity and access administration: on/offboarding, access changes, group and role design, privileged access controls.

  • Endpoint fleet: procurement, build standards, configuration, patching, recovery and disposal.

  • Vendors, contracts, licensing and assets: renewals, third-party risk review, and a clear picture of what we own and what it costs.

  • Business continuity for internal systems: backup, restore testing, documented recovery expectations.

  • Security operations: vulnerability monitoring and remediation, logging, and an incident response process you have rehearsed, not just written.

  • Projects and documentation: upgrades, improvement initiatives, and standards that let someone else run this without you.

What makes this role different

Technology delivered as a service

Internal requests are merging licensing needs with DevOps-style resource design and allocation. We are looking for someone who has experience of executing with that type of a platform-centric mindset.

  • Infrastructure as code, version control and repeatable deployment as normal practice.

  • A safe, documented path for teams to run what they build, and a reasoned no when it does not fit.

Security and compliance as your own work

We hold ISO 27001 and SOC 2 Type II certifications, work under HIPAA obligations, and handle data in scope for GDPR. Several of the controls behind those certifications live in internal technology, and this role owns them by name rather than supplying evidence for someone else to assemble.

  • You must have fluency with at least one formal control framework, and the judgement to tell a control's intent from its paperwork.

  • You should be able to demonstrate identity-centered thinking: least privilege, scoped access, risk minimization.

Fluency with AI

Utilizing AI is a key part of Prowess' current strategy and a critical part of our trajectory. Internal technology must respond to this with appropriate control of access, permissions and acceptable use, and we expect this role to take on a growing share of how internally built AI tooling is supported and governed. Furthermore, in contrast to prevailing business environments where risk-averse IT attenuates AI adoption, we expect IT to be a facilitator, enabler, and accelerator of wise organizational adoption of AI, AI-based tools, and knowledge worker-created AI-created apps and systems.

Much of that work runs on an internal platform we are building to serve the help desk and IT side of the organization as well as the people building on it. The technology side of it belongs to this role: who may call what, which credential each connection acts as, and what is allowed to run unattended. A key function of the role is using this platform to enable end users to work in the “Frontier” style, very quickly building and operating their own apps and rolling them out to their teams securely. This role will also have a hand in where the platform goes next.

  • You must have a hands-on familiarity with modern AI tooling, and an active interest in how fast it is developing.

  • The role will be frequently faced with requests that carry risk, so you must possess the instinct to describe what safe would look like rather than to refuse it or wave it through.

Technology and Tools

Tools change faster than the thinking behind them, and we are more interested in methodology and judgement than specific vendors or tool stacks. Expect to talk about:

  • A technical decision you would make differently now, and what changed your mind.

  • How you decide whether to buy something, run it yourself, or decline the request.

  • An internal tool that needs to reach a real system on someone's behalf. What would safe look like, and how would you decide?

No years-of-experience figure: the role suits someone who has run technology operations and a small team somewhere with real compliance obligations. If your experience is uneven but your reasoning is strong, apply anyway and tell us where the gaps are.

Our environment

  • Entirely cloud-hosted, with only minimal lab hardware.

  • A Microsoft organization: Azure and Entra underpin identity and infrastructure.

  • ISO 27001, SOC 2 Type II, HIPAA obligations, GDPR in scope.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in information technology, Computer Science, Information Systems, Cybersecurity, or a related field highly desired.

  • The person for this role will have progressively responsible IT experience.

  • This IT Manager will have experiencemanaging small teams, vendors, projects, and technical teams.

  • Experience supporting corporate IT infrastructure and business applications.

  • Experience leading system implementations, migrations, upgrades, and operational improvements.

  • Experience with M365 administration, ISO, SOC, and GDPR required.

  • Experience implementing generative AI or automation solutions.

Additional Details

  • The offered pay range for this position is $140,000 - $185, 000 per year depending on experience.
