Managers in this position specialize in service areas such as project implementation, application systems, development and integration, planning and strategy, network and radio, and datacenter. Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university in information technology or closely related field; five to ten years of progressively responsible experience directly related to the specified information technology service area; at least two years of lead or supervisory experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Working title: Network Manager
Responsible for implementation, configuration and management of all network, VoIP, and endpoint devices to meet the City of Roanoke’s current and future requirements. Responsible for operations management of the regional radio system infrastructure, including oversight of the City’s Radio Shop.
Performs difficult technical and administrative duties in overseeing a technology team by performing the following duties.

Supervises approximately 2-8 assigned technical staff. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical documents and contracts. Ability to write reports, correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to communicate technical concepts to technical and non-technical audiences.
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret and deal with an extensive variety of variables. Ability to think logically.
