Job summary

Edison Smart in Austin, TX is seeking its first dedicated internal IT hire for a fast-growing government/defense space. This hands-on role will own infrastructure, set up processes, and eventually move into leadership as the team scales.

You will manage GCC High/Azure Government, M365 stack, Entra ID, Intune, Exchange Online, security tooling, and be responsible for FedRAMP, NIST 800-171, CMMC compliance. This is a rare opportunity to build an IT function from scratch in a regulated environment

Qualifications

• Must have built IT function from zero in a startup or high-growth environment.
• Hands-on operator comfortable with strategy and day-to-day support.
• Experience owning and administering GCC High / Azure Government environments.
• Strong knowledge of M365, Entra ID, Intune, Exchange Online and security stack.
• Experience supporting FedRAMP, NIST 800-171 and CMMC Level 2 compliance.
• U.S. Citizen eligible for security clearance (required).

Our client, a fast-growing company operating in the government/defense space, is hiring their first dedicated internal IT hire. This is a genuinely hands-on role from day one - you'll be setting up processes, delivering on projects, and helping manage a Microsoft GCC High / Azure Government environment initially stood up by external consultants. As the company grows and the team builds out around you, there's clear scope to step into a leadership role.

You'll need to be comfortable inheriting, auditing, and taking full ownership of infrastructure you didn't build, while rolling your sleeves up on the day-to-day.

What you'll be doing:

• Acting as the sole internal IT resource - hands-on with processes, projects, and ongoing environment management
• Managing the wider Microsoft 365 stack - Entra ID, Intune, Exchange Online, and Microsoft security tooling
• Supporting FedRAMP, NIST 800-171 and CMMC compliance requirements
• Managing secure government/defense cloud environments (Azure Government, AWS GovCloud, Okta GovCloud or similar)
• Developing IT policies, processes and documentation fit for a regulated environment
• Standing up scalable infrastructure to support rapid company growth
• Growing into a leadership role as the IT function scales and the team hires

What we're looking for:

• Proven experience building an IT function from zero in an early-stage startup or high-growth environment
• A hands-on technical operator - comfortable owning both strategic initiatives and day-to-day support
• Experience owning and administering GCC High / Azure Government environments
• Strong working knowledge of M365, Entra ID, Intune, Exchange Online and Microsoft security stack
• Experience supporting FedRAMP, NIST 800-171 and CMMC Level 2 compliance
• Comfortable being the only internal IT resource while the business scales
• U.S. Citizen, eligible to obtain a U.S. security clearance (required)
