Job summary

GRIMMWAY PRODUCE GROUP in the Bakersfield area seeks an IT Intern to assist with daily IT activities, hardware/software support, and department projects. This paid internship offers hands-on experience and potential pathway to full-time roles.

You will work with the IT team under the Department Manager, support help desk on weekends, maintain documentation, and collaborate across facilities within the Bakersfield area while gaining exposure to cybersecurity, networks, and enterprise technology.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in or recently completed an undergraduate, post-graduate, or graduate‑level program in Information Technology or related field.
• Must be authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.
• Interest in IT, systems administration, networking, cybersecurity, or enterprise technology.
• Basic understanding of computer hardware, software, operating systems, networks, and IT concepts.

Responsibilities

• Assist with day‑to‑day IT activities and department projects.
• Support installation, configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of hardware, software, and peripherals.
• Respond to and resolve technical support requests; escalate complex issues as needed.

JOB TITLE: IT INTERNSHIP

LOCATION: BAKERSFIELD AREA

REPORTS TO: DEPARTMENT MANAGER

The IT Internship is designed to provide undergraduate, post‑graduate, and graduate‑level students pursuing relevant fields of study with meaningful, hands‑on experience that complements their academic and career interests. Interns gain exposure to real‑world IT practices and operations through day‑to‑day responsibilities, department‑specific projects, and professional development opportunities. This paid internship is available for immediate hire and offers valuable hands‑on experience with our IT team. The opportunity may also serve as a pathway to future full‑time employment within the department.

MINIMUM JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

• Currently enrolled in or recently completed an undergraduate, post‑graduate, or graduate‑level program in Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems, Cybersecurity, Network Administration, Computer Engineering, or another related field of study.
• Must be authorized to work in the United States without current or future employment sponsorship.
• Demonstrated interest in information technology, systems administration, networking, cybersecurity, technical support, or enterprise technology.
• Basic understanding of computer hardware, software, operating systems, networks, and general IT concepts through relevant coursework or experience.
• Ability to provide support across multiple facilities within the greater Bakersfield area, including worksites located approximately 15 miles apart.
• This position may require working at various locations based on business needs, including rotational assignments at alternate worksites for extended periods.
• Ability to troubleshoot technical issues, research potential solutions, and communicate findings clearly.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and familiarity with Windows‑based systems and common business technology.
• Strong analytical, problem‑solving, organizational, and communication skills.
• Ability to provide professional and customer‑focused support when working with employees and technology users.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and appropriately handle company, employee, system, and other sensitive information.
• Ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively with IT and cross‑functional teams.
• Reliable transportation to assigned work location(s) and company facilities as required.
• Must be available to work weekends, as needed, to provide Help Desk support and ensure continuity of IT operations.
• Must have a valid driver's license and maintain a driving record that meets company policy, insurance, and DMV requirements.
• Employment is contingent upon successful completion of applicable pre‑employment screening requirements, consistent with federal and state law.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

• Assist with day‑to‑day Information Technology activities and department‑specific projects based on business and operational needs.
• Support the installation, configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of computer hardware, software peripherals, and other technology resources.
• Assist with responding to and resolving technical support requests and user issues, escalating more complex concerns as appropriate.
• Support the setup and maintenance of user workstations, devices, accounts, applications, and technology access as assigned.

• Assist with Installing or replacing hard drives, monitors, RAM chips I/O cards, video cards, and laser / ink / dot matrix, thermal printers.

• Assist with network, infrastructure, systems, cybersecurity, or other IT‑related activities and projects based on department needs.
• Participate in the testing, deployment, and implementation of hardware, software, system updates, and new technologies.
• Assist with maintaining accurate IT documentation, inventories, procedures, system information, and technical resources.
• Support data collection, analysis, reporting, and research related to IT systems, performance, security, or department initiatives.
• Assist with identifying opportunities to improve technology processes, user experience, system reliability, and operational efficiency.
• Collaborate with IT team members and other departments to understand how technology supports business operations across the organization.
• Apply technical knowledge to a meaningful department‑specific project, with the opportunity to summarize findings, results, or recommendations at the conclusion of the internship.
• Follow applicable information security, data privacy, technology, and workplace safety policies and procedures.
• Provide Help Desk support and technical assistance during weekend shifts, as needed, to ensure continuity of IT services and operational coverage.
• Provide temporary coverage for Help Desk Specialists during scheduled time off, leaves of absence, or other staffing needs, assisting with daily support responsibilities to maintain uninterrupted IT services.

STARTING WAGE:

$17.75 - $22.50 (dependent on college standing)
