Job summary

Hemlock Semiconductor invites rising college juniors and seniors to apply for the IT Infrastructure & Security Summer Intern role, offering hands-on exposure to enterprise infrastructure, hosting platforms, cybersecurity operations, and IT automation in a manufacturing setting.

You will work with Infrastructure and Security professionals on projects, learn project management, and contribute to process improvements with automation and AI-enabled solutions.

Qualifications

• Must be enrolled in a 4-year university pursuing a degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Computer Engineering, Information Systems or related field.
• Minimum cumulative 2.7 GPA on a 4.0 scale.
• Must be a full-time student (12+ credits) during fall and winter semesters.
• Must be able to work full-time during the summer internship.
• Must be within driving distance to the site and have reliable transportation.

Responsibilities

• Learn and support core IT Infrastructure and Security processes and technologies.
• Collaborate with teams to identify automation and AI-enabled solutions for operational improvement.
• Analyze processes and data to identify inefficiencies and opportunities.
• Evaluate ideas based on business value, feasibility, and impact.
• Design, develop, test, and document automation, reporting, or AI-assisted solutions.
• Assist with infrastructure, hosting, monitoring, security, and service management initiatives.
• Present results and recommendations to IT leadership.

Summary

This position is open to qualified and highly motivated college students pursuing a degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Computer Engineering, or a related field. The IT Infrastructure & Security Intern will work alongside Infrastructure and Security professionals to support operational initiatives, identify process improvement opportunities, and develop automation and AI-enabled solutions that improve efficiency, visibility, security, and service delivery. This role provides exposure to enterprise infrastructure, hosting platforms, cybersecurity operations, and modern IT automation technologies within a manufacturing environment.

Essential Functions

The student will be assigned tasks and projects based on their education level, current skills, targeted development opportunities, and current business needs. Responsibilities may include:

• Learn and support core IT Infrastructure and Security operational processes and technologies.
• Collaborate with infrastructure and security teams to identify opportunities for operational improvement through automation and AI-enabled solutions.
• Analyze existing processes, workflows, and operational data to identify inefficiencies and improvement opportunities.
• Evaluate and prioritize automation and process improvement ideas based on business value, technical feasibility, and operational impact.
• Design, develop, test, and document approved automation, reporting, or AI-assisted solutions.
• Assist with infrastructure, hosting, monitoring, security, and service management initiatives as assigned.
• Present project results, recommendations, and lessons learned to technical teams and IT leadership.

Additional Responsibilities

• Learn project management methodologies and participate in project planning activities.
• Participate in team meetings, technical discussions, and knowledge-sharing activities.
• Research emerging technologies and industry trends related to infrastructure, cybersecurity, automation, and artificial intelligence.
• Develop technical documentation, user guides, process diagrams, and operational procedures.
• Propose innovative solutions aligned with business objectives and the IT roadmap.

Requirements

• The candidate must attend a 4-year university and pursue a certificate or degree in a similar field of study
  • Preferred fields of study include: Information Technology, Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Computer Engineering, Information Systems
• Minimum cumulative 2.7 GPA on 4.0 scale
• Must be full-time student (12 or more credits) during fall and winter semesters

Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position are dependent on hours worked and may include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, variable bonus, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, and PTO.
