Job summary

AEG Vision seeks an IT Infrastructure Migration Engineer to plan, engineer, and deliver modernization initiatives across its practice locations. The role covers data center migrations, legacy email migrations, and remote-site backup design using Synology backup tech and cloud-based protections.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field, plus 4+ years of relevant experience.
• Hands-on experience performing physical-to-virtual migrations at scale across Windows and Linux server environments.
• Strong working knowledge of VMware vSphere/ESXi, Microsoft Hyper-V, KVM, or comparable virtualization platforms.
• Working knowledge of Exchange, Microsoft 365, Exchange Online, and mail-flow DNS records (MX, SPF, DKIM, DMARC, Autodiscover).
• Proficiency with server and mailbox migration tools such as VMware vCenter Converter, Double-Take/Carbonite, Zerto, StarWind V2V Converter, or similar utilities.
• Hands-on experience designing and implementing backup solutions for remote or distributed locations using Synology Active Backup for Business, Synology NAS appliances, and cloud-based backup or replication services.
• Experience protecting workloads during data center migrations, including pre-migration backups, replication, recovery validation, rollback readiness, and transition to the target-state backup platform.
• Experience with storage concepts (SAN, NAS, RAID, LUNs) and networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, VLANs, DNS, DHCP, firewalls, VPNs, IPsec).
• Experience delivering infrastructure projects end-to-end: assessment, design, testing, implementation, validation, documentation, and handoff.
• Scripting or automation experience using PowerShell, Bash, Python, or similar tools.
• Strong troubleshooting, documentation, project prioritization, time management, written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead infrastructure migration and modernization projects from discovery and planning through implementation and post-cutover support.
• Assess legacy email, server, storage, network, application, licensing, and dependency requirements; identify risks.
• Perform mailbox, calendar, contact, public folder, PST, archive, and journal data migrations as applicable.
• Plan mail-flow and DNS changes (MX, SPF, DKIM, DMARC, Autodiscover) for controlled cutovers.
• Plan, design, test, and execute physical-to-virtual migrations of Windows and Linux workloads to VMware/Hyper-V/KVM.
• Use migration/protection tools (VMware vCenter Converter, Synology Active Backup, Double-Take/Carbonite, Zerto, StarWind V2V)
• Design, build, document, and support standardized backup solutions for remote practice locations using Synology backup tech.
• Define backup schedules, retention, encryption, monitoring, recovery procedures, and RPO/RTO for remote workloads.
• Coordinate replication, data seeding, bandwidth planning, cutover protection, and post-migration backup transition.
• Coordinate migration windows with leadership, vendors, and IT teams to minimize disruption.
• Implement security controls; confirm migrated systems meet compliance and protection standards.
• Decommission legacy hardware and email systems after validation and approval.
• Maintain records of migrated systems, mailboxes, configurations, licenses, and network topology changes.
• Perform risk assessments and provide post-implementation support and knowledge transfer.

This role reports to the Sr. Director of IT Infrastructure and partners closely with Field Services, Data Center Operations, Security, Helpdesk, vendors, and practice leadership. The position supports centralized infrastructure modernization initiatives and distributed technology needs across AEG Vision's practice locations.

We are seeking an experienced IT Infrastructure Migration Engineer to plan, engineer, and deliver infrastructure modernization initiatives across AEG Vision. This hands-on position supports data center and field service needs, including legacy email migrations, physical-to-virtual server conversions, data center migrations, and resilient backup solutions for remote practices using Synology backup technologies and approved cloud-based protection services. The role leads work from assessment and design through testing, cutover, validation, documentation, and operational handoff, focusing on minimizing downtime, preserving data integrity, managing technical risk, and meeting security, compliance, architectural, and business requirements.

Responsibilities

• Lead infrastructure migration and modernization projects from discovery and planning through implementation and post-cutover support.
• Assess legacy email, server, storage, network, application, licensing, and dependency requirements and identify compatibility and end-of-life risks.
• Perform mailbox, calendar, contact, public folder, PST, archive, and journal data migrations, as applicable.
• Plan mail-flow and DNS changes, including MX, SPF, DKIM, DMARC, and Autodiscover, to support controlled cutovers.
• Plan, design, test, and execute physical-to-virtual migrations of Windows and Linux workloads to VMware, Hyper-V, KVM, or equivalent environments.
• Use approved migration and protection tools, including VMware vCenter Converter, Synology Active Backup for Business, C2 Cloud, Double-Take/Carbonite, Zerto, StarWind V2V Converter, and native or third-party mailbox migration utilities.
• Design, build, document, and support standardized backup solutions for remote practice locations using Synology backup technologies and approved cloud-based backup services.
• Define backup schedules, retention requirements, encryption, monitoring, alerting, recovery procedures, recovery point objectives, and recovery time objectives for remote-practice workloads.
• Use Synology backup and cloud protection solutions to safeguard workloads before, during, and after data center migrations, including migration rollback and recovery readiness.
• Coordinate replication, data seeding, bandwidth planning, cutover protection, and post-migration backup transition activities for remote practices and data center workloads.
• Coordinate migration windows with practice leadership, management, vendors, and internal IT teams to minimize operational disruption.
• Implement security controls and confirm migrated systems and data meet applicable company, compliance, performance, and protection standards.
• Decommission legacy physical hardware and retire legacy email systems after successful validation and approval.
• Maintain accurate records of migrated systems, mailboxes, configurations, dependencies, backup architecture, asset mappings, exceptions, recovery runbooks, and network topology changes.
• Perform risk assessments and root cause analysis, and provide post-implementation support, knowledge transfer, and operational handoff support.
