Position Summary
Company is seeking an experienced, hands-on IT operations and infrastructure professional to serve as IT Database & Infrastructure Manager. This role is responsible for the administration, support, security, performance, and continuous improvement of the Company's database environments, Microsoft 365 ecosystem, servers, networking, endpoints, enterprise applications, and related IT infrastructure.
This is not a traditional database-only position. The successful candidate will have substantial hands-on experience across Microsoft 365 administration, Exchange Online, SharePoint, Intune, Active Directory, Windows Server, networking, endpoint management, infrastructure support, cybersecurity, and enterprise applications, in addition to strong database administration experience.
The IT Database & Infrastructure Manager will be expected to independently troubleshoot complex technical issues, administer core IT systems, lead technology projects from beginning to completion, and provide hands-on support across the Company's shore-side offices and vessel-based technology environments.
The ideal candidate is a senior-level IT generalist/infrastructure professional with strong database expertise who can work independently, take ownership of projects, and serve as a senior technical resource across the organization.
Key Responsibilities
IT Operations & Infrastructure - Primary Focus
- Administer, maintain, monitor, and troubleshoot the Company's core IT infrastructure and business systems.
- Provide hands-on administration and support for Microsoft 365, Exchange Online, SharePoint, Intune, Active Directory, Windows Server, endpoints, networking, and related infrastructure.
- Manage user accounts, permissions, groups, policies, devices, applications, and security configurations across Microsoft environments.
- Administer and support Microsoft 365 services, including Exchange Online, SharePoint, Teams, Intune, and related services.
- Manage and support Active Directory, including users, groups, organizational units, Group Policy, authentication, and access controls.
- Administer and support Windows Server environments, including server configuration, patching, troubleshooting, monitoring, and maintenance.
- Manage endpoint environments, including workstation deployment, configuration, patching, security, application deployment, and lifecycle management through Microsoft Intune and related tools.
- Troubleshoot network and connectivity issues involving TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, routing, VPNs, firewalls, switches, wireless/Wi-Fi, and other enterprise networking technologies.
- Support server, storage, virtualization, networking, cloud, and application infrastructure.
- Provide technical support for remote offices and vessel-based technology systems as required.
- Troubleshoot complex infrastructure issues that cross multiple technology platforms, including endpoint, network, server, application, identity, and database environments.
- Assist with infrastructure upgrades, technology modernization, system implementations, and migrations.
- Partner with vendors and service providers to troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues.
Microsoft 365 Administration
- Serve as a hands-on administrator for the Company's Microsoft 365 environment.
- Administer and troubleshoot Exchange Online, including mailboxes, distribution groups, permissions, security settings, mail flow, and related services.
- Administer and support SharePoint Online, including sites, permissions, access, configuration, and troubleshooting.
- Administer Microsoft Intune for endpoint management, device configuration, application deployment, compliance policies, and security controls.
- Support Microsoft Teams and other Microsoft 365 applications as required.
- Manage Microsoft 365 users, licenses, groups, permissions, and security settings.
- Troubleshoot Microsoft 365 issues independently and serve as a senior escalation point for complex problems.
Database Administration & Data Management
The Company's current database environments include:
- ABS Nautical Systems Enterprise (NSE): MySQL
- KPS: Microsoft SQL Server
- Intacct: Microsoft SQL Server
- DocMap: Microsoft SQL Server
Responsibilities include:
- Administer, monitor, maintain, and optimize enterprise database environments.
- Provide hands-on administration and troubleshooting of Microsoft SQL Server and MySQL environments.
- Monitor database performance and implement tuning and optimization strategies.
- Develop and maintain database backup, recovery, business continuity, and disaster recovery procedures.
- Plan and execute database upgrades, patches, maintenance, and version migrations.
- Support database connectivity and integrations for enterprise applications.
- Troubleshoot database, application, connectivity, and performance issues.
- Maintain database security, permissions, auditing, monitoring, and access controls.
- Develop and maintain database architecture diagrams, technical procedures, standards, and documentation.
- Provide database support for NSE, KPS, Intacct, DocMap, and other business-critical applications.
- Ensure database environments remain secure, reliable, available, and appropriately maintained.
Networking & Connectivity
- Troubleshoot and support enterprise network infrastructure.
- Demonstrate strong working knowledge of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, routing, switching, VPNs, firewalls, and wireless/Wi-Fi technologies.
- Troubleshoot connectivity between users, endpoints, servers, applications, databases, remote locations, and vessels.
- Support network-related infrastructure upgrades and technology projects.
- Diagnose issues across the network, server, endpoint, application, and database layers.
IT Project Ownership
- Independently lead and manage IT projects from planning through implementation and completion.
- Take ownership of assigned projects without requiring extensive day-to-day direction.
- Coordinate system implementations, upgrades, migrations, infrastructure improvements, and technology initiatives.
- Develop project plans, identify technical requirements, coordinate resources, communicate status, and drive projects to completion.
- Work with internal stakeholders and external vendors to ensure successful project execution.
- Identify opportunities to improve reliability, security, efficiency, and overall IT service delivery.
Cybersecurity & Risk Management
- Implement and maintain security controls across Microsoft 365, endpoints, servers, databases, and infrastructure.
- Support vulnerability management, endpoint security, patch management, and remediation activities.
- Monitor systems for security issues and participate in cybersecurity incident response.
- Manage database and system access controls and permissions.
- Assist with security assessments, audits, compliance requirements, and remediation initiatives.
- Maintain appropriate logging, monitoring, alerting, backup, and recovery processes.
End-User & Application Support
- Serve as a senior escalation point, rather than primarily functioning as a help desk resource.
- Troubleshoot complex technical problems involving applications, infrastructure, databases, servers, networks, endpoints, and Microsoft 365.
- Provide support to shore-side offices, remote locations, and vessel-based operations.
- Work directly with business users to understand technical requirements and develop practical solutions.
- Communicate technical issues and solutions effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

- Experience supporting maritime, shipping, transportation, logistics, or industrial organizations.
- Experience with ABS Nautical Systems Enterprise (NSE).
- Experience with MySQL in an enterprise environment.
- Experience with Azure and hybrid cloud environments.
- Experience with Microsoft Intune and modern endpoint management.
- Experience with PowerShell, scripting, automation, or system integration.
- Experience with cybersecurity and vulnerability management.
- Experience supporting geographically distributed offices, remote locations, or vessel-based technology environments.
- Experience with business intelligence, reporting, data analytics, or visualization platforms.
Education & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Systems, Database Administration, or related field preferred.
- Minimum of seven (7) years of progressive IT experience.
- Minimum of five (5) years of enterprise IT infrastructure, systems administration, database administration, or related experience.
- Demonstrated hands-on experience administering Microsoft 365 and enterprise IT infrastructure.
- Demonstrated experience independently managing technical projects and initiatives.
- Experience supporting enterprise applications, infrastructure, and business-critical systems.
- Equivalent combination of education, professional experience, and industry certifications may be considered.
