Keystone Shipping Company is seeking an experienced and highly motivated IT Database Manager to oversee the administration, security, performance, and strategic development of the company's database environments and related business systems. This role combines technical database expertise with IT leadership responsibilities to ensure the availability, integrity, security, and performance of critical company data across shore-side offices and vessel assets. This position requires a hands‑on leader capable of managing database environments while assisting with broader infrastructure, cybersecurity, and end‑user support initiatives.
Position Responsibilities
Database Administration & Data Management
- Administer, monitor, maintain, and optimize company database systems.
- Ensure all enterprise databases are continuously available, at peak performance, maintain integrity, and always secure.
- Develop and maintain database backup, recovery, and disaster recovery procedures.
- Monitor database performance and implement tuning strategies to improve efficiency.
- Manage database upgrades, patches, and maintenance activities.
- Support ERP applications and other database‑driven business systems.
- Develop standards for database design, data governance, and documentation.
- Create and maintain database architecture diagrams, procedures, and technical documentation.
- Ensure data security and compliance with company and regulatory requirements.
- Coordinate database‑related projects, upgrades, and system implementations.
- Develop and refine IT best practices, policies, and procedures.
- Assist with budgeting, planning, and reporting for database and infrastructure initiatives.
- Participate in strategic technology planning and roadmap development.
Infrastructure & Systems Support
- Collaborate with infrastructure teams to support Microsoft 365, Active Directory, ABS Nautical Systems Enterprise (NSE), Docmap, virtualization, and cloud environments.
- Support server, storage, networking, and application environments that interact with database platforms.
- Assist with endpoint management, patching, vulnerability remediation, and system maintenance.
- Manage database connectivity and integrations across enterprise systems.
- Support remote offices and vessel‑based technology systems as required.
Security & Compliance
- Implement database security standards and access controls.
- Monitor systems for vulnerabilities and participate in security incident response activities.
- Ensure proper auditing, monitoring, and logging of database environments.
- Assist with cybersecurity initiatives and remediation efforts.
- Support compliance audits and data retention requirements.
User Support & Service Delivery
- Serve as the escalation point for database and application‑related issues.
- Work closely with users to identify business needs and develop technology solutions.
- Respond to and resolve technical issues while maintaining a high level of customer service.
- Participate in on‑call support and after‑hours maintenance as necessary.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Required Technical Skills
- Strong experience administering Microsoft SQL Server and/or other enterprise database platforms.
- Strong understanding of database design, normalization, performance tuning, and query optimization.
- Experience with backup, recovery, replication, and disaster recovery technologies.
- Experience supporting ERP systems and associated databases.
- Microsoft 365 administration experience including Exchange, SharePoint, and Intune.
- Experience with Active Directory and identity management.
- Understanding of TCP/IP networking and troubleshooting.
- Understanding of DNS, routing, firewalls, and enterprise networking concepts.
- Experience with Citrix, Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD), and/or Terminal Services environments.
- Experience with operating system administration including Windows Server environments.
- Familiarity with cloud database technologies and hybrid environments.

- Experience with cybersecurity and vulnerability management programs.
- Knowledge of business intelligence, reporting, and data analytics platforms.

Credentials and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Systems, Database Administration, or related field.
- Minimum of seven (7) years of progressive IT experience.
- Minimum of five (5) years of database administration experience in an enterprise environment.
- Experience managing technology projects and leading technical initiatives.
- Equivalent combination of education, experience, and certifications may be considered.
- Based at Keystone Shipping Company's corporate headquarters in Bala Cynwyd, Pennsylvania.
- Work in office 4 days per week and one day remote per week.
- Occasional travel may be required.
- Physical requirements may include lifting equipment up to 60 pounds, assisting with installation or removal of IT hardware when necessary, and climbing ship’s embarkation and accommodation ladders in the maritime environment.
