This role works directly with project teams, field leadership, plant personnel, and office staff to ensure business processes are effectively supported through technology.

The IT Field Support Specialist serves as a primary liaison between construction operations and the Information Technology department. This role works directly with project teams, field leadership, plant personnel, and office staff to ensure business processes are effectively supported through technology. The ideal candidate brings strong communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills, along with a desire to learn both construction operations and technology. While technical aptitude is important, success depends on understanding operational workflows, building relationships with business stakeholders, identifying opportunities for improvement, and helping drive the effective use of technology across the organization. This position operates in office, project trailer, plant, and field environments. It requires regular interaction with project teams, business leaders, and technology professionals.

Key Responsibilities Operational Support and Partnership

• Develop a working understanding of construction, materials, and field operations, including how work is planned, executed, measured, and reported.
• Build strong relationships with superintendents, foremen, project engineers, project managers, plant personnel, and operations leadership.
• Serve as a trusted resource for field and office personnel regarding technology-enabled business processes.
• Observe and evaluate workflows to identify opportunities for process improvement, standardization, and increased efficiency.
• Assist operational teams in adopting new technologies and business processes.

Technology Enablement and Support

• Support field and business applications used across construction and materials operations.
• Assist users with application functionality, mobile technologies, data access, and the business processes supported by these tools.
• Participate in application testing, deployments, upgrades, and field technology rollouts.
• Help ensure consistent and effective use of technology across projects and operational teams.
• Coordinate with internal IT teams and vendors to resolve issues, improve solutions, and strengthen the user experience.
• Provide practical troubleshooting and hands-on support when technology issues prevent operational teams from completing their work.

Business Analysis and Process Improvement

• Gather and document business requirements from field and office stakeholders.
• Analyze operational challenges and translate them into clearly defined business and technology needs.
• Participate in process reviews, workflow analysis, and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Assist in evaluating technologies and capabilities that support operational objectives.
• Identify opportunities to improve productivity, reporting, collaboration, and data quality.

Training and User Adoption

• Provide practical training and guidance on business applications, mobile solutions, and operational technologies.
• Develop quick-reference materials, user documentation, and process guides.
• Support organizational change through clear communication, hands-on engagement, and follow-up with users.
• Promote best practices and standardized business processes across operational teams.

Project Participation

• Participate in technology and business process improvement projects.
• Assist with discovery, testing, validation, implementation, training, and post-deployment support.
• Collaborate with business stakeholders, project teams, IT resources, and vendors to support successful outcomes.
• Track issues, user feedback, and enhancement opportunities related to field technology solutions.

This is not a remote position. Candidates must be able to work out of Fairfax office and travel to plants and project sites as needed.

Salary Range: $80,000 - $90, 000 per year

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate their problem-solving and critical thinking on each and every assignment, employ their verbal and written communication skills to influence outcomes and bring their tenacity and drive to achieve business objectives.

Education

Bachelor's degree preferred in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Information Systems, Business Administration, Operations Management, Construction Technology, or a related discipline. Equivalent combinations of education and relevant experience will be considered.

Experience

• Professional experience in construction, engineering, operations, project coordination, process improvement, business analysis, or a technology-related role.
• Experience working directly with operational teams is highly desirable.
• Experience supporting or using business applications, mobile technologies, and operational systems is beneficial.
• Construction or heavy civil industry experience is preferred but not required.
