Job summary

The City of Irving Information Technology Department is seeking a skilled Communications Equipment Technician to install, repair, program and maintain radio base station gear, portable and fixed radios, PA systems and related equipment. It also covers IP network infrastructure, RF and fiber components, and vehicle 12VDC systems.

Customer service to city and public safety users is essential. Duties include preventive maintenance and after-hours emergency support.

Qualifications

Associate Degree in a related subject field or equivalent experience.
Two years of experience supporting communications equipment and systems.
NIMS certification(s) preferred.
Valid Class C Texas driver’s license or ability to obtain one.
Criminal history check required; no disqualifying convictions.
Available for emergency call-outs after normal hours.

Responsibilities

Install, repair, program, and maintain radio base station equipment and related gear.
Install and repair IP network infrastructure (wireless/wired, switches, drops).
Design, install, and repair 12VDC vehicle systems and hardware.
Program subscriber personalities for communications equipment and maintain antenna/microwave systems.
Provide technical assistance and training to users of communication systems.
Perform preventive equipment tests and support after-hours emergencies.
