The City of Irving Information Technology Department is seeking a skilled Communications Equipment Technician to install, repair, program and maintain radio base station gear, portable and fixed radios, PA systems and related equipment. It also covers IP network infrastructure, RF and fiber components, and vehicle 12VDC systems.
Customer service to city and public safety users is essential. Duties include preventive maintenance and after-hours emergency support.
Duties include performing advanced technical work in the support of the City’s communications equipment and systems – installing, repairing, programming and maintaining communications equipment such as radio base station equipment, portable and fixed mobile radios, PA sound systems, alarm systems, display systems, and other related equipment; installing and repairing IP network infrastructure (wireless/wired, switches, drops/termination); installing and managing RF infrastructure at multiple locations; assisting with locates and installing fiber optic networks (single and multimode); designing, installing and repairing 12VDC vehicle systems and hardware (MDC, DVR, AVL, intercom/radio interface gear, emergency lights and sirens and other related equipment); programming subscriber personalities for communications equipment; installing, repairing and maintaining antenna systems, control station systems, antenna tower equipment and microwave communication radios; performing frequent equipment tests as part of preventive maintenance; and providing technical assistance and training to users of communication systems. Duties will require providing customer service to the City’s many general government and public safety customers. An Associate Degree in a related subject field or equivalent experience, and two years of experience supporting communications equipment and systems required. NIMS certification(s) preferred. Must have, or be able to obtain, a valid Class C Texas driver’s license. Candidates will be subject to a criminal history check. Must not have any criminal conviction above the grade of a Class B misdemeanor or any Class B misdemeanor within the past 10 years; other convictions may also be considered. Must be available for emergency call-outs after normal hours.
PAY GRADE IT20 / FULL PAY RANGE $32.39 – $45.69 PER HOUR
