Job summary

Jenner & Block LLP in Chicago, IL seeks an IT Business Analyst to translate business needs into technical requirements and support end-to-end delivery of data and software solutions across hybrid teams.

The role reports to the Associate Director, Development, and covers discovery through testing and deployment, with responsibilities in agile planning, documentation, data governance, and cross-functional collaboration to drive value for the firm.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience in business analysis, SDLC, product management, or data analysis.
  • Experience mapping data integrations with enterprise systems, especially financial/ERP or equivalent complex legal tech environments.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and Microsoft tools such as Azure DevOps, Power Platform / Automate, Power BI, SharePoint Online, and Visio.
  • Understanding of SQL, data management concepts, data governance best practices, and documentation of data lineage or reporting definitions.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with excellent written and verbal communication skills.

POSITION SUMMARY

The IT Business Analyst, reporting to the Associate Director, Development, plays a key role in translating business needs into technical requirements and supporting the successful delivery of data and software solutions. Working across hybrid development teams and business stakeholders, this position contributes to the full lifecycle of product development—from discovery and design through testing and deployment.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Translate complex business needs into detailed functional and technical specifications. Develop highly structured process maps, user stories, and acceptance criteria using designated corporate templates.
  • Lead and participate in documentation reviews (e.g. project charters, SOWs, business requirements, change requests), ensuring requirement completeness, clarity, and alignment with business objectives. Responsible for capturing accurate, timely meeting minutes and maintaining organized action-item tracking.
  • Support agile delivery, including sprint planning, backlog grooming, and cross-functional coordination. Proactively manage personal backlogs and project timelines to ensure all deliverables meet established sprint and project deadlines.
  • Act as a critical bridge between business strategy and technical execution. Proactively flag project blockers, identify scheduling conflicts, and escal potential dependency risks to management with proposed solutions.
  • Actively contribute to the development and enhancement of IT best practices, methodologies, and data governance. Assist in identifying internal IT processes that require workflows or deeper analysis, and map and document data structures, lineage, and flows to facilitate system integrations.
  • Identify, log, and resolve issues and risks related to data and software products, including cross-impact analysis and root cause documentation.
  • Support the delivery of firmwide programs and technology solutions, ensuring alignment with strategic priorities and end user needs; identify opportunities for process improvement.
  • Partner with QA team to define test scenarios, review test results, and ensure adequate coverage for regression, performance, and user acceptance testing.
  • Assist with third-party vendor coordination and collaborate efficiently on cross-organizational technical initiatives.
  • Maintain high standards with attention to detail and ability to meet strict deadlines.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
  • 3+ years of experience in business analysis, software development lifecycle (SDLC), product management, or data analysis.
  • Experience mapping data integrations with enterprise systems, specifically requiring familiarity with financial/ERP or equivalent complex legal tech environments.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and other Microsoft tools such as Azure DevOps, Power Platform / Automate, Power BI, SharePoint Online, and Visio (or similar process mapping tools).
  • Understanding of SQL, data management concepts, data governance best practices, and documentation of data lineage or reporting definitions.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Professional certifications such as Certified Business Analysis Professional (CBAP), PMI Professional in Business Analysis (PMI-PBA), Certified Scrum Product Owner (CSPO), or Product Management.
  • Familiarity with user experience principles and ability to contribute to the design of intuitive user interfaces.
  • Experience with AI/ML projects and an understanding of user flows involving AI-driven insights.
  • Experience with SQL Server, Microsoft Fabric, Azure DB, Elite 3E, or ServiceNow.

The anticipated pay range for this role is $80,000 to $125,000 in Chicago. The actual offered rate for this position will be determined based on several factors, including qualifications and experience, geographic location, education, external market data, and consideration of internal equity.
