We have an important role to play in securing the region’s clean and reliable energy future and seek folks from a variety of disciplines to join us! We are looking for a detail-oriented and analytical individual with a strong background in Finance and Information Technology, and experience in a cloud business operations role with an emphasis on budget forecast accuracy and cost optimization. The candidate will play a crucial role in connecting business, IT, and Finance cost centers to facilitate data-driven decision-making in near real-time to enhance cloud efficiency and improve business outcomes. They will create and leverage reports generated by the FinOps team for activities such as cost allocation and forecasting. Additionally, they will collaborate closely with FinOps practitioners to understand historical billing data, enabling the construction of accurate forecasting models for planning and budgeting.

How you will make an impact:

  • As a member of the Finance team, you will analyze Cloud spend and data center growth related to IT infrastructure and applications.
  • Provide subject matter expertise to assist IT and Finance leaders on key strategic decisions related to budgets.
  • Lead the Financial Operations team members, supervisors, and managers by communicating and guiding them toward achieving department objectives. Ensure accurate development and preparation of operating and capital budgets.
  • Track and compare spend to historic baseline costs to identify savings from migrating from on-premise data centers to cloud-based services.
  • Work closely with IT partners to monitor application and data usage to develop and maintain projected spend for short-term and long-term planning and budgeting for IT.
  • Act as a liaison between IT and the finance and budget departments.
  • Partner with IT operations to develop, implement, and track key indicators that influence costs.
  • Provide financial insights through deep analysis, highlighting trends, explaining variances, and identifying opportunities for efficiencies without compromising service quality or business growth.
  • Collaborate with IT staff to map activity within the Cloud and other services to accounting reports, monitor against budgets and projections, identify variances, and alert management of unfavorable results for corrective actions.

What you need to be successful in this role:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance
  • 6+ years of experience in accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, and forecasting activities
  • Experience managing IT costs, analyzing IT project budgets, proficiency in data analysis tools, and a basic understanding of financial principles and accounting practices
  • Knowledge and experience in IT operations, product life cycles, network computing, and capital expenditures
  • Experience and knowledge of billing on cloud platforms, including how usage patterns impact total cost of ownership
  • Ability to develop effective reporting schemes and metrics to maintain control over cloud service usage and billing
  • Desired but not required:
    • CPA certification
    • Previous experience in the IT industry
    • Experience in capacity forecasting and cloud cost optimization techniques
    • Experience with cloud FinOps tools (e.g., CloudCheckr, CloudHealth, AWS Cost Explorer, etc.)
