ISO New England is the independent system operator responsible for ensuring the safe and reliable flow of electricity in our region and planning for the future of the electric grid. We are at the forefront of New England’s ongoing transition to clean energy.

We have an important role to play in securing the region’s clean and reliable energy future and seek individuals from various disciplines to join us. We are looking for a detail-oriented and analytical professional with a strong background in Finance and Information Technology, and experience in a cloud business operations role with an emphasis on budget forecast accuracy and cost optimization. The candidate will connect business, IT, and Finance cost centers to facilitate data-driven decision-making in near real-time to enhance cloud efficiency and improve business outcomes. They will generate and utilize reports from the FinOps team for activities such as cost allocation and forecasting, and collaborate with FinOps practitioners to develop accurate forecasting models for planning and budgeting.

How you will make an impact:

  • Analyze Cloud spend and data center growth for IT infrastructure and applications as part of the Finance team
  • Provide expertise to assist IT and Finance leaders in strategic decision-making related to budgets
  • Lead the Financial Operations team by guiding and communicating to achieve departmental objectives, ensuring accurate development of operating and capital budgets
  • Track and compare spend against historical costs to identify savings from migrating data centers to cloud services
  • Work with IT partners to monitor application and data usage to project future spend for planning and budgeting
  • Act as a liaison between IT and finance/budget departments
  • Develop and track key indicators that influence costs in partnership with IT operations
  • Provide financial insights through deep analysis, explain variances, and identify efficiency opportunities without compromising service or growth
  • Collaborate with IT staff to map cloud activity to accounting reports, monitor budgets, and alert management to variances for corrective action

What you need to be successful in this role:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance
  • 6+ years of experience in accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, and forecasting
  • Experience managing IT costs, analyzing project budgets, proficiency in data analysis tools, and understanding of financial principles
  • Knowledge of IT operations, product life cycles, networking, and capital expenditures
  • Experience with billing on cloud platforms and understanding usage impact on total cost of ownership
  • Ability to develop effective reporting schemes to control cloud service usage and billing
  • Preferred but not required: CPA, prior IT industry experience, capacity forecasting, cloud cost optimization techniques, experience with cloud FinOps tools (e.g., CloudCheckr, CloudHealth, AWS Cost Explorer)
