Essex North Shore Agricultural & Technical School is seeking an IT & AV Specialist to support staff, students, and guests across the District. The role blends day-to-day IT help desk work with planning, installing, and operating AV systems for classrooms, presentations, and events.

The ideal candidate will have at least three years of IT/AV experience, proficiency in Windows, macOS, ChromeOS, and Google Workspace, and familiarity with AV equipment and network cabling.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of three years of experience in IT support, AV technology, or a combination of both; experience in a school setting preferred.
  • Proficient in Windows, macOS, and ChromeOS environments; knowledgeable in Google Workspace.
  • Working knowledge of AV systems, including projectors, displays, wireless presentation systems, audio mixers, microphones, speakers, and HDMI/AV-over-IP signal routing.
  • Experience installing, terminating, and testing low-voltage network cabling, and installing IT and security equipment such as wireless access points, switches, security cameras, and access control hardware.

  • Installs, configures, and updates operating systems and software applications used by the District.
  • Provides user support such as account management and password resets in Google Workspace and other District systems.
  • Sets up, deploys, and configures new and existing technology equipment.
  • Installs and mounts IT and security equipment, including wireless access points, network switches, security cameras, and access control hardware.
  • Creates and maintains technical documentation, user guides, and tutorials for end users.
  • Cross-trains in the student information system to support end-users.
  • Participates in IT projects such as equipment deployments and network and system upgrades.
  • Sets up, tests, and breaks down presentation areas, including projectors, displays, wireless presentation systems, microphones, speakers, and mixers.
  • Installs, mounts, cables, and configures AV equipment; coordinates with Facilities and outside contractors.
  • Serves as an AV/Technology technician for internal school events and facility rental events.
  • Operates AV equipment during live events and handles recording or live-streaming as needed.
  • Performs preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and minor repairs on AV equipment.
  • Trains staff and renters on basic AV usage and creates quick-start guides.
  • Recommends AV equipment purchases and upgrades.

IT & AV Specialist

This position is classified as non-exempt .

REPORTING STRUCTURE: The IT & AV Specialist reports to the Director of Technology or their designee.

Position Summary

The IT & AV Specialist supports staff, students, and guests with all information technology and audio-visual equipment across the District. The position combines day-to-day IT support with the planning, installation, setup, and operation of AV systems for classrooms, presentation spaces, internal school events, and facility rental events.

Responsibilities
  • Responds to helpdesk requests; troubleshoots and resolves hardware, software, and network connectivity issues for staff and students.
  • Supports and maintains end-user equipment, including computers, Chromebooks, tablets, printers, copiers, phones, and peripherals.
  • Installs, configures, and updates operating systems and software applications used by the District.
  • Provides user support such as account management and password resets in Google Workspace and other District systems.
  • Sets up, deploys, and configures new and existing technology equipment.
  • Installs and mounts IT and security equipment, including wireless access points, network switches, security cameras, door access control hardware, and related devices, in collaboration with the IT Systems Administrator and outside contractors.
  • Creates and maintains technical documentation, user guides, and tutorials for end users (staff, students, caregivers, renters/guests).
  • Cross-trains in the student information system in order to support end-users.
  • Participates in IT projects such as equipment deployments and network and system upgrades.
Audio-Visual
  • Sets up, tests, and breaks down presentation areas, including projectors, displays, wireless presentation systems, microphones, speakers, and mixers, for classrooms, meeting rooms, and event spaces.
  • Installs, mounts, cables, and configures AV equipment such as displays, projectors, cameras, sound systems, and control systems; coordinates with Facilities and outside contractors on larger installations.
  • Serves as an AV/Technology technician for internal school events, including assemblies, open houses, admissions events, School Committee meetings, ceremonies, and professional development days.
  • Serves as an AV/Technology technician for facility rental events: meets with renters before the event to confirm needs, sets up and tests equipment, provides on-site support during the event, and resets rooms afterward.
  • Operates AV equipment during live events, including audio mixing, presentation switching, and recording or live-streaming as needed.
  • Performs preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and minor repairs on AV equipment; tracks issues and coordinates vendor repairs.
  • Maintains an organized AV equipment storage area and a sign-out process for portable equipment.
  • Trains staff and renters on the basic use of room AV systems and creates simple quick-start guides for each space.
  • Recommends AV equipment purchases and upgrades, and establishes relationships with equipment suppliers and contractors.
General
  • Maintains knowledge of IT and AV innovations and trends; attends conferences, trainings, and workshops as appropriate.
  • Handles confidential information with discretion and integrity, following District policies on student, staff, and school data.
  • Performs such other tasks and assumes such other responsibilities not inconsistent with the role as the Director of Technology or designee may assign.
Qualifications

  • Experience installing, terminating, and testing low-voltage network cabling, and installing IT and security equipment such as wireless access points, switches, security cameras, and access control hardware.
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills, including with outside renters and the public.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to stay calm and resolve issues quickly during live events.
  • Ability to adapt to emerging technologies.
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent-Director may find appropriate and in conformity with state and federal law.
Physical Requirements
  • Prolonged periods of standing, walking, and working at a computer.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds and move equipment carts between buildings and rooms.
  • Must be able to bend, kneel, crawl, and work on ladders and lifts to install and cable equipment.
Terms and Conditions of Employment
  • This is a twelve-month position.
  • Weekday work hours will be adjusted based on the needs of the District, including early-morning and evening start and end times to support internal and rental events. Some events will require additional hours on weekends. The work schedule will be set by the Director of Technology based on the event calendar.
  • Salary and fringe benefits are established by the Superintendent-Director in accordance with the policies established by the School Committee.
  • This position is part of the AFSCME bargaining unit.

Position Type: Full-Time

Salary: $31.45 to $44.81 Per Hour
