Practice Area Overview

As the organization continues to grow and the software portfolio expands, there is an increasing need for dedicated resources to assist with software entitlement management, lifecycle tracking, compliance activities, and software inventory reconciliation. An intern will provide meaningful support to the ITAM program while gaining valuable hands‑on experience in enterprise software management, licensing, compliance, and operational governance.

Throughout the internship, potential areas of exposure include:

Software Entitlement Management

• Collecting and organizing software purchase records, contracts, renewals, invoices, and licensing documentation.
• Researching and validating software entitlements across multiple vendors.
• Reconciling purchased licenses against deployed software inventories.
• Assisting with the creation and maintenance of a centralized software entitlement repository.

Software Compliance and Audit Readiness

• Supporting software compliance reviews.
• Assisting with internal software true-up activities.
• Gathering evidence and documentation required for vendor audits.
• Identifying licensing gaps, over-deployment, or unused licenses.

End-of-Support (EOS) and End-of-Life (EOL) Tracking

• Identifying applications that are approaching or have reached EOS/EOL status.
• Researching vendor lifecycle information and documenting support timelines.
• Maintaining dashboards and reports of unsupported software.

Software Inventory and Data Quality

• Validating software inventory data from Service Now.
• Identifying duplicate, unauthorized, or obsolete software entries.
• Supporting software normalization and categorization efforts.
• Performing data cleanup and improving asset record accuracy.

Cost Optimization Activities

• Identifying unused or underutilized software licenses.
• Assisting with license harvesting initiatives.
• Researching opportunities for license consolidation and optimization.
• Supporting renewal preparation and software spend analysis.

Reporting and Metrics

• Creating and maintaining software asset management reports.
• Tracking key performance indicators such as: Software compliance status License utilization rates EOS/EOL application counts Remediation progress Renewal forecasting.
• Supporting leadership reporting and audit readiness documentation.

Faster completion of software reconciliation and cleanup projects. Additional bandwidth for senior ITAM personnel to focus on strategic initiatives, vendor negotiations, governance, and process improvements. Development of future ITAM and Software Asset Management talent.

What We're Looking For

Currently enrolled in an accredited Juris Doctor (J.D.) program and having successfully completed the first or second year of law school.

Strong academic performance, with a preferred cumulative grade point average of 3.2 or higher.

Ideal candidates should have strong Microsoft Office skills, attention to detail, Analytical and problem‑solving mindset, ability to research and document findings independently, strong organizational and communication skills, ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities, and curiosity and willingness to learn enterprise IT processes.

Ideal candidates should have an interest in: IT Asset Management (ITAM), Data analytics and reporting, IT governance and operational excellence, and Enterprise technology operations.

Work Location

Ability to work in our corporate headquarters in Plano, Texas throughout the entire ten‑week summer intern program.

Compensation

Summer Interns at Upbound Group are paid hourly in accordance with usual payroll procedures. $23.00 per hour.
