Job summary

Appen is seeking a Director of IT & Automation to lead our IT function, shaping strategy and execution for a modern, AI-native organization. You will manage IT operations, enterprise technology, security and automation initiatives with a bias toward practical problem-solving and ownership.

You will build and lead a high-performing team across IT support, enterprise tech and automation, championing AI-driven improvements and tight governance. Strong leadership and executive presence are essential.

Qualifications

8+ years in IT, including significant leadership experience.
Hands-on knowledge of Microsoft 365 and enterprise IT administration.
Technical credibility across enterprise SaaS, cloud infrastructure, endpoints, identity and integrations.
Experience with SOC 2, ISO 27001 and IT security governance.
Commercial acumen across vendor management, negotiation and technology spend.
Demonstrated track record of turning AI and automation into working solutions for IT problems.

Responsibilities

Set the IT roadmap across enterprise technology, support, security and automation.
Lead IT support, endpoint management and major incident response.
Shape the IT operating model and team as the company grows.
Own the health, configuration and integration of the core enterprise technology environment.
Provide technical leadership across Microsoft 365, including identity and security.
Oversee enterprise tech including Salesforce, Workday, Atlassian, AWS, Databricks and Anthropic.
Own IT's role in SOC 2 and ISO 27001, including controls and audits.
Maintain security, access and endpoint controls across the IT environment.
Identify tech and operational risks before incidents occur.
Govern AI use across IT balancing adoption with security and compliance.
Make AI and automation core tools for IT operations and user experience.
Identify opportunities to eliminate manual work using AI, automation, and self-service.
Partner with Engineering and Product on larger automation initiatives.
Manage vendor portfolio, licensing, consolidation and technology cost optimisation.
Build a high-performing IT team and foster a problem-solving culture.
