Job summary

Universal Health Services (UHS) seeks an Information Services Support Technician at Palmdale Regional Medical Center to support the Cerner Millennium application and coordinate user training during go-live. You will liaise between nursing, departments, physicians and the IS team to resolve issues and improve workflows.

Information Services (I.S.) Support Technician

Under the direction of the Clinical Application Support Manager participates as part of the Universal Health Services (UHS) clinical implementation team and performs liaison duties associated with ongoing support and maintenance of the Cerner Millennium application Palmdale Regional Medical Center. The coordinator serves as a liaison between departments, Information Services, Physician, and Corporate Information Services. This position provides problem tracking resolution and continual education to PRMC employees and Physicians.

Essential Job Duties
  • 1. Assumes full responsibility for specific facility-related tasks during clinical systems implementation.
  • 2. Strictly adheres to work plans, reporting all serious deviations to management.
  • 3. In conjunction with the UHS corporate clinical team, coordinates the training of users in preparation for go live.
  • 4. Performs Q/A on all new clinical screens and pathways developed.
  • 5. Actively participates in all conversion/install meetings.
  • 6. Functions as an IS liaison to nursing, other user departments, and physicians to effectively identify and resolve user concerns.
  • 7. Assists users in the development of reports.
  • 8. Monitors the equipment usage and hardware requirements for clinical system usage.
  • 9. Makes hardware recommendations to management as needed.
  • 10. Executes job duties and proactive measures to achieve optimal productivity and efficiency.
  • 11. Recognizes that clinical resources at other facilities are possible resources to help improve department operations in clinical areas.
  • 12. Ensures accuracy and completeness of work performed.
  • 13. Participates in regularly scheduled conference calls with Clinical Coordinators.
  • 14. Responsible for the assignment and maintenance of system security for clinical users.
  • 15. Actively works with the user community to ensure that they have a broad understanding of the clinical applications.
  • 16. Researches and resolves related user issues.
  • 17. Assembles and prepares appropriate documentation on issues/problems where necessary.
  • 18. Actively assists the UHS helpdesk and corporate Clinical Analyst in problem identification and resolution of tickets.
  • 19. Opens and tracks local helpdesk tickets as needed.
  • 20. Performs Q/A on all requested changes as well as helpdesk ticket resolutions.
  • 21. Assists the UHS IS team in the development of test data and documentation for new applications.
  • 22. Follows through with assignments and lets supervisors know if they are unable to complete tasks.
  • 23. Other duties assigned.

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, regulatory or accreditation requirements Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, clients, customers, and the public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Basic to Intermediate Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. Ability to calculate figures and percentages.

REASONING ABILITY

Intermediate to High Skills: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. The ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Demonstrates knowledge and ensures compliance with The Joint Commission and Title 22 standards and guidelines.
  • Always demonstrate compliance with hospital policies and procedures.
  • Ability to set priorities and appropriately organize workload and complete assignments in a timely manner.
  • Familiarity with basic medical laws and ethics, i.e., consents, confidentiality.
  • Knowledge of emergency procedures, medical terminology, and medical abbreviations.
  • Demonstrates ability to relate to clinical personnel and medical staff, as well as ability to interact well with the public.
  • Must have knowledge of PC and applications.
