You will work with farmers to assess needs, design custom systems, oversee installation, and provide ongoing support while traveling within the Free State region. This on-site position emphasizes sustainable practices and productivity gains.

Competenze

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Agricultural Engineering, Hydrology, Agronomy, or related field.
• 5+ years of experience in agricultural irrigation design, installation, or management.
• Knowledge of drip, micro-sprinkler, center pivot irrigation systems and related technologies.

About the Role

Our client, a progressive agricultural consultancy firm serving the Welkom, Free State region, is seeking a highly skilled Irrigation Systems Specialist. This role is dedicated to designing, implementing, and optimizing water management solutions for various agricultural operations to enhance efficiency and crop yields. The ideal candidate will possess expert knowledge of different irrigation technologies, water conservation strategies, and irrigation scheduling. You will work closely with farmers to assess their needs, design custom irrigation systems, oversee installation, and provide ongoing support and troubleshooting. This is a vital on-site position, requiring frequent travel to farms within the Welkom area and surrounding districts. Our client is committed to promoting sustainable agricultural practices and believes efficient water management is key to this. You will be at the forefront of implementing modern irrigation technologies, contributing significantly to the productivity and environmental stewardship of the farms we serve. Key Responsibilities

• Assess farm water requirements and soil conditions to recommend appropriate irrigation systems.
• Design and engineer efficient irrigation systems, including drip, sprinkler, and center pivot designs.
• Prepare technical drawings, specifications, and cost estimates for irrigation projects.
• Oversee the installation and commissioning of irrigation systems, ensuring quality and adherence to design.
• Provide technical training and support to farm staff on irrigation system operation and maintenance.
• Monitor system performance, troubleshoot issues, and recommend improvements for efficiency.
• Implement and manage irrigation scheduling based on crop needs, weather data, and soil moisture monitoring.
• Advise on water source management, pump systems, and water quality considerations.
• Stay current with advancements in irrigation technology and water conservation practices.
• Collaborate with agronomists and other agricultural professionals to provide integrated solutions.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree or relevant qualification in Agricultural Engineering, Hydrology, Agronomy, or a related field.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience specifically in agricultural irrigation design, installation, or management.
• In-depth knowledge of various irrigation technologies (drip, micro-sprinkler, center pivot, etc.).
• Proficiency in irrigation design software (e.g., AutoCAD, IrriCAD) and hydraulic calculations.
• Understanding of soil-plant-water relationships and crop water requirements.
• Experience with water pump systems and filtration.
• Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
• Valid driver's license and willingness to travel extensively within the Free State region.
• Experience with soil moisture sensing technology is a plus.
