Placements24 is seeking an experienced Irrigation Systems Specialist to join our client in Upington, Northern Cape. You will design, install, and optimize irrigation systems (drip, sprinkler, pivot) for diverse crops, ensuring water efficiency and reliable operation in a water-scarce region.

The role requires a strong hydraulics background, knowledge of irrigation components, and the ability to work with farmers and farm managers.

Qualifications

• Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Engineering, Civil Engineering, Horticulture, or related field.
• Minimum 5 years of experience designing, installing, and maintaining agricultural irrigation systems.
• In-depth knowledge of irrigation components, hydraulics, pumps, and control systems.
• Proficiency with irrigation design software and CAD is advantageous.
• Understanding of agronomic principles and crop water requirements.

Responsibilities

• Design and engineer irrigation systems (drip, sprinkler, pivot) tailored to farm layouts and crops.
• Oversee installation and commissioning of new irrigation infrastructure.
• Conduct regular inspections and maintenance for optimal performance.
• Troubleshoot and repair irrigation system malfunctions (pumps, valves, controllers).
• Advise farmers on water management, irrigation scheduling, and conservation techniques.
• Analyze soil moisture data and weather forecasts to optimize irrigation timing.
• Manage inventory of irrigation components and materials.
• Ensure compliance with water usage regulations and promote water-efficient practices.
• Provide technical training and support to farm staff on operation and maintenance.
• Keep abreast of new irrigation technologies and innovations.
