Position Summary
Responsible for the layout, installation, assembly, and steel erection components in accordance with blueprint plans, specifications, codes, and industry standards.

Primary Responsibilities and Duties
- Read specifications or blueprints to determine the locations, quantities, or sizes of material required.
- Fabricate metal parts, such as steel frames, columns, beams, or girders, according to blueprints or instructions from supervisors.
- Unload and position prefabricated steel units for hoisting; hoist steel beams, girders, or columns into place using cranes or signaling hoisting equipment operators.
- Verify vertical and horizontal alignment of structural steel members, using plumb bobs, laser equipment, transits, or levels.
- Cut, bend, or weld steel pieces using metal shears, torches, or welding equipment.
- Force structural steel members into final positions using turnbuckles, crowbars, jacks, or hand tools.
- Pull, push, or pries structural steel members into approximate positions for bolting into place.
- Bolt aligned structural-steel members in position for permanent riveting, bolting, or welding.
- Assemble hoisting equipment or riggings, such as cables, pulleys, or hooks, to move heavy materials.
- Estimate sizes, distances, and quantities; determine time, costs, resources, or materials needed for work activities.
- Inspect subordinate's work for compliance with contract plans and specifications, identify deficiencies, and implement corrective actions.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent with relevant experience preferred.
- Strong working knowledge and skills for the position.
- Ability to understand, follow, and transmit written and oral instructions effectively.
- Proficient in the safe use of electrical, hand tools, power tools, layout tools, and measurement tools.
Requirements
- Constant movement around a construction/industrial site; ability to stand, walk, sit, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl.
- Work outdoors in changing weather conditions.
- Work irregular hours, including weekends, overtime, and holidays.
- Use ladders, mechanical platforms, manlifts, scaffolds to access work areas, sometimes exceeding 200 feet.
- Move and work in confined, cluttered, and uneven spaces.
- Complete tasks in noisy and dusty environments.
- Move items weighing up to 50 pounds across the site.
- Possess required tools.
- Observe safety and project rules; perform other duties as required.
- Pass pre-access drug and alcohol tests, medical, and background checks.
