Position Summary

Assist skilled craftsperson(s) by performing supportive duties as directed and work under immediate supervision. Responsibilities and requirements vary depending on experience and assigned job step.

Primary Responsibilities and Duties:

1. Learn to read specifications or blueprints to determine material requirements.
2. Assist in fabricating metal parts such as steel frames, columns, beams, or girders according to blueprints or instructions.
3. Help unload and position prefabricated steel units; assist with hoisting steel beams or columns into place using cranes or signaling equipment.
4. Learn to verify alignment of structural steel members using appropriate tools.
5. Assist with cutting, bending, or welding steel pieces using appropriate equipment.
6. Assemble hoisting equipment or riggings to move heavy materials or equipment.

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent; experience in the field preferred.
• Knowledge of safety procedures and use of hand and power tools.
• Ability to follow instructions and communicate effectively.
• Field experience in the craft discipline.

Requirements:

• Ability to move constantly around a construction site, including standing, walking, reaching, and kneeling.
• Work outdoors in varying weather conditions; work irregular hours, including weekends and holidays.
• Use ladders, scaffolds, and other equipment; climb and maintain balance on structures.
• Work in confined, cluttered, or uneven spaces; lift items up to 50 pounds.
• Possess required tools and possibly a US driver’s license.
• Follow safety and project rules; pass drug, medical, and background checks.
