Hours may vary but typically include four 10-hour shifts: 7:00 am - 5:30 pm, 7:30 am - 6:00 pm, or 8:00 am - 6:30 pm. The role requires on-call duties: one weekday and approximately every fifth weekend, as well as on-call for one or two holidays.

IR Technologist

The Interventional Radiology (IR) Technologist operates interventional radiographic equipment to produce diagnostic and interventional imaging of the body under the supervision of a radiologist. Collaborates with physicians, nursing staff, and other technologists to perform specialized procedures. Uses sound judgment in patient care and education before, during, and after procedures. May serve as a mentor for junior technologists or trainees.

Essential Functions

  1. Interact professionally with co-workers, visitors, and staff, reflecting Jefferson’s values.
  2. Perform interventional procedures such as vascular angiography, drainage, biopsies, nephrostomies, catheter insertions, and vascular embolizations under physician guidance.
  3. Maintain proper patient and equipment positioning during procedures to ensure safety and optimal results.
  4. Test equipment like contrast media injectors and program selectors for proper functioning prior to procedures.
  5. Determine equipment needs based on the physician's preliminary diagnoses and scout films.
  6. Ensure radiation safety standards are followed to protect staff and patients.
  7. Keep radiographic and lab equipment, as well as examination rooms, in good working condition.
  8. Perform other duties as directed by supervisors, including quality assurance tasks.
  9. Additional duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of needles, catheters, sterile techniques, and drugs used in procedures. Familiarity with equipment, techniques, and hospital policies.

Minimum Education and Experience

  • Graduate of an approved ARRT program or hold a validated ARRT certification in Radiology Technology (R). ARRT (R) and (CT) certifications are preferred.
  • Two years of experience as an interventional radiographer in a hospital setting is preferred.

Certifications and Licenses

  • Advanced ARRT certification is preferred.
