Job Details

Hours could vary but they are (4) 10-hour shifts: 7a-5:30p; 7:30a-6p; 8a-6:30p. There is an on-call requirement: 1 weekday and about every 5th weekend. Also on call for one or two holidays.

IR Technologist

The Interventional Radiology (IR) Technologist is responsible for operating interventional radiographic equipment to produce imaging of the body for diagnostic and interventional procedures under the direction of a radiologist. Works collaboratively with the radiologic care team, including physicians, nursing personnel, and other technologists, to perform specialized interventional radiographic examinations. Uses good judgment in patient care and education before, during, and after diagnostic imaging procedures. May act as a mentor for less experienced IR technologists or technologists in training.

Essential Functions

  1. Interact professionally with co-workers, visitors, and staff, reflecting Jefferson’s values.
  2. Perform interventional procedures such as vascular angiographic (non-cardiac), drainage, biopsies, nephrostomies, catheter insertions, vascular embolization, and other procedures under physician guidance.
  3. Maintain proper patient and equipment positioning during contrast media flow to ensure safety and examination success.
  4. Test special equipment like contrast media injectors and program selectors for proper function before procedures, ensuring timing and synchronization.
  5. Determine equipment needs based on physician’s tentative diagnoses and scout films for preliminary review.
  6. Ensure staff and patient safety by adhering to radiation safety standards.
  7. Maintain radiographic and lab equipment, and keep examination rooms in proper working condition.
  8. Perform additional technologist duties as directed by supervisors, including quality assurance and control tasks.
  9. Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of needles, catheters, sterile techniques, and drugs required for each exam. Familiarity with procedures, equipment, and hospital policies.

Minimum Education and Experience

  • Graduate of an approved ARRT program or hold a validated ARRT Registry in Radiology Technology (R). ARRT (R), (CT) preferred.
  • Two years of experience as an interventional radiographer in a hospital setting is preferred.

Certifications and Licenses

  • Advanced ARRT certification is preferred.
