Job Description
The Staff Accountant is an integral part of the Finance team, providing accounting and revenue validation support to the Financial Analyst, Finance Supervisor, Finance Manager, Controller, and CFO. Responsible for ensuring the timely and accurate completion of monthly accounting close functions, balance sheet and revenue reconciliations, and the annual audit process. Assists in reviewing, reconciling, and analyzing data to ensure the financial integrity of reported information. Completes additional assignments and projects as required by team members.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Perform daily cash management duties, including updating Cash Flows, uploading, and decisioning Positive Pay.
- Conduct monthly accounting close procedures, such as preparing bank reconciliations, month-end journal entries, and processing payment imports, along with balance sheet reconciliations.
- Process Capitation Revenue Files and other cash receipts, assigning G/L codes for posting.
- Compile and run various monthly Claims Payments and Claims Payable reports.
- Share monthly claims reports and capitation revenue files with clients.
- Maintain sub-schedules used by the Financial Analyst for preparing Financial Performance summaries by Health Plan and Line of Business.
- Generate PDF financial statements for all health centers and upload them to the FTP site.
- Maintain schedules and backups for year-end and mid-year audits.
- Perform additional duties and prepare ad-hoc reports as needed.
Minimum Job Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- At least 3 years of experience in Physician Organization, Health Plan, Hospital Finance, or related fields.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Proficiency in Excel (including VBA, macros, Pivot tables, VLOOKUP, HLOOKUP), PowerPoint, MS Access, and other Microsoft Office tools.
- Knowledge of MAS 200 and EZ-Cap is a plus.
- Extensive experience with accounting close procedures and general ledger reconciliation.
- Strong analytical skills and understanding of finance concepts, including financial statement analysis.
- Excellent communication skills, accuracy, ability to meet deadlines, and effective reporting capabilities.
- Ability to plan, coordinate, and prioritize resources effectively.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a quick grasp of unfamiliar concepts.
- Attention to detail, proofreading, and editing skills.
- Maintain confidentiality and comply with HIPAA laws.
