Job summary

Dorsey & Whitney LLP is seeking a Practice Group Director for Intellectual Property & Advocacy to drive success across IP, Regulatory, Labor & Employment, and Construction Litigation groups. The hybrid role can be based in any U.S.

office, including Dallas, and involves partnering with HR, Finance, Marketing, KM, and other departments to align priorities and optimize operations. You will oversee staffing, budgeting, workflow design, and performance management, while advancing people-centered

Qualifications

• Leadership and project management skills; ability to manage multiple initiatives under pressure.
• Excellent collaboration and communication skills; advanced stakeholder management and influence without authority.
• Familiarity with budgeting, forecasting, profitability analysis, and performance reporting.
• Working knowledge of AI tools and applications; willingness to learn and evaluate emerging technologies.

Responsibilities

• Act as a strategic advisor to firm and Practice Group leadership on operational matters; lead initiatives to advance priorities.
• Lead operational and systems initiatives within Patent and Trademark practices, including workflow design and resource allocation; supervise IP Practice Manager.
• Partner with HR, Finance, IS, Knowledge Management, Marketing to implement firm initiatives across Practice Groups.
• Lead people-focused initiatives including onboarding/offboarding, succession planning, training, workload management, and associate advancement to partnership.
• Coordinate with Finance on budgets, reporting, staffing models, profitability, and matter management; monitor trends for enhancements.
• Facilitate client reporting and budget tracking; collaborate with Marketing on cross-practice initiatives and events.
• Support Practice Groups' strategic business plans and promote cross-team communication to address morale and performance.
