Job summary

State Farm is seeking an IP-focused paralegal to support the Corporate Law Department in managing patent, trademark, and copyright portfolios. You will draft filings, monitor deadlines, and liaise with outside counsel and internal clients across the enterprise.

The role requires 3+ years IP experience, paralegal credentials, and strong familiarity with USPTO systems and IP docketing tools. Expect a busy, detail-driven environment with potential travel.

Qualifications

• Paralegal degree/certificate (or equivalent education) and 3+ years IP experience.
• Deep understanding of patent/trademark filing lifecycles and related filings.
• Proficiency with USPTO electronic systems (EFS-Web, Patent Center, TEAS).
• Experience with IP docketing tools and managing deadlines.
• Experience reviewing marketing content for IP issues and advising attorneys.
• Must comply with professional responsibility and confidentiality.

Responsibilities

• Assist counsel with drafting and preparation of patent, trademark, and copyright filings and responses.
• Review marketing/content for IP issues and recommend steps for attorney review.
• Monitor trademark watch and clearance; summarize risks for attorney review.
• Draft cease and desist letters under attorney direction.
• Support UDRP matters and track filing deadlines.
• Conduct legal research and prepare summaries for attorneys.
• Respond to inquiries from internal departments and external associates.
• Use IP docketing systems and USPTO filing portals to manage matters and deadlines.
• May involve travel and irregular hours; maintain paralegal competency through education.
