Job description

JOB SUMMARY:

The IP Litigation Paralegal will support attorneys in a wide range of legal projects and tasks. The IP Litigation Paralegal will assist with all phases of intellectual property litigation, including research, discovery, summary judgment, Markman, mediation, arbitration, trial, and appeal. The position requires availability for overtime and flexibility for travel. Actual pay for this position will be determined based on experience.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Assists with ITC, federal and superior court cases of varying complexity from start to finish.
  • Prepares court filings as needed, including but not limited to creating shell documents, drafting motions, proofreading, cite-checking, compiling declarations, creating and updating tables of contents and authorities, and preparing exhibits and appendices.
  • Acts as lead or secondary paralegal on assigned cases, and provides case support to others within the department as needed.
  • Coordinates with attorneys and eDiscovery vendors to create and manage electronic databases, including loading, culling, searching, reviewing, tagging, coding, and generating productions and privilege logs.
  • Assists with the logistics of paper & electronic discovery, including litigation holds, data mapping, custodian interviews, chains of custody, document collections, document reviews, and productions.
  • Provides comprehensive trial support, including but not limited to preparation related travel coordination, including the management of exhibits, notebooks, witness binders, as well as courtroom and war room setup. Demonstrates flexibility in response to trial demands. Attendance and travel may be required.
  • Monitors, maintains and updates departmental case database, assigned dockets, and deadlines. Communicates professionally and respectfully, with colleagues, counsel, clients, agencies, witnesses, opposing parties, court personnel, and vendors.
  • Conducts in-depth legal research, ensuring accuracy and compiling results in an organized and succinct manner.
  • Drafts correspondence, basic pleadings, and motions.
  • Assists with mentoring and training for new hires in the department.
  • Works proactively and collaboratively with paralegals and assistants within the litigation department.
  • Completes additional tasks and projects as firm needs dictate. This includes administrative tasks, pro bono matters, client development projects and assisting with projects from other departments.
  • Maintains a billing goal of 1400 hours annually.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • A minimum of 1-2 years’ experience directly supporting an IP litigation practice. Additional experience preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • Trial support, and complex litigation experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of the IP litigation process, with additional ITC and PTAB experience is preferred.
  • High proficiency in managing electronic discovery databases, such as Relativity.
  • Proficiency in Case Notebook (or LiveNote), Westlaw, Pacer, Bluebook citation, Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, FTP services and other litigation specific software.
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills and the ability to effectively communicate information, workflow, and project updates.
  • Detail oriented, with strong time management, prioritization, problem-solving, and organizational skills, including the ability to work efficiently under pressure and in a deadline-oriented environment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work both independently and effectively within a team.
  • Flexible and capable of responding calmly and effectively in stressful situations.
  • Punctual and reliable and able to meet deadlines and work effectively under pressure.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of matters and other firm business information.
