Job summary

Larson Maddox on behalf of its private AI infrastructure client seeks an Intellectual Property Counsel to develop and execute a global IP strategy. You will partner with technical, product, and business teams to identify, protect, and leverage innovations while supporting rapid growth.

Based in California, this role reports to the General Counsel and involves managing patent portfolios, advising on licensing and tech transactions, and providing freedom-to-operate guidance.

Qualifications

• J.D. and active U.S. bar membership.
• 5+ years of relevant legal experience.
• Prior Big Law experience required.
• In-house experience preferred.
• Experience managing patent portfolios and supporting technology transactions.
• Experience supporting AI Infrastructure/Data Center/Semiconductor technology businesses preferred.
• Ability to provide practical guidance in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Manage and expand the company's patent portfolio, including invention harvesting, prosecution strategy, and competitive landscape analysis.
• Partner with technical teams to identify and protect innovative technologies.
• Support intellectual property aspects of licensing agreements, strategic partnerships, joint development arrangements, and commercial transactions.
• Conduct IP due diligence for strategic business initiatives and transactions.
• Advise on patents, trademarks, copyrights, trade secrets, and open-source matters.
• Provide practical risk assessments and freedom-to-operate guidance.
• Manage outside counsel and support IP-related disputes when necessary.
• Develop internal intellectual property training and awareness programs.
