IP BIOTECHNOLOGY PATENT AGENT
Location: Boston, MA

Our client, a premier AmLaw 50 firm, is seeking a talented Patent Agent to join their leading national Intellectual Property Department within the Chemical, Biotechnology, and Pharmaceutical Practice Group. Based in Boston, this opportunity is ideal for a scientifically grounded, detail-oriented patent professional who is passionate about innovation and IP protection in the biotechnology space.

Candidate Profile:
  • PhD in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Genetics, Chemistry, or a closely-related field with an excellent academic record.
  • Registered to practice before the USPTO.
  • 3+ years of substantive experience in patent counseling, including the preparation and prosecution of patent applications.
  • Strong technical background in biotechnology or related life sciences disciplines.
  • Demonstrated experience drafting and prosecuting domestic and international patent applications.
  • Preferred experience preparing patentability, freedom-to-operate, and validity opinions.
  • High proficiency in conveying complex scientific concepts in a clear legal context.
  • Prior experience at a law firm with a sophisticated patent practice strongly preferred.
  • Soft Skills: Strong legal writing, research, analytical, and communication skills.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Prepare and prosecute U.S. and international patent applications related to biotechnology and life sciences innovations.
  • Conduct intellectual property due diligence and analyze complex patent landscapes.
  • Draft patent opinions, including freedom-to-operate, validity, and patentability assessments.
  • Collaborate with attorneys and clients to develop and implement global patent strategies.
  • Assist with portfolio management and client counseling for a variety of biotechnology clients, including startups, academic institutions, and global corporations.
  • Stay current on developments in patent law and biotechnology to provide clients with strategic, up-to-date guidance.
