Job description

Part-time, Paid Hourly Remote (NYC or Boston preferred) 10–20 hrs / week 2nd-Year Full-Time MBA

About Strong Road Capital

Strong Road Capital is a new growth equity firm based in Boston and NYC. Our first fund and founding thesis addresses a structural imbalance in the private markets. We make investments in established, growth-scale tech businesses: typically $20–$100 million in revenue, with mature unit economics, 30–100% YoY growth, and scalable go-to-market motion. These are companies the venture market has turned its back on while it chases the next unicorn. We invest in "real economy" businesses that no longer have the decacorn potential underwritten by their initial VC backers, but that have real AI tailwinds and a clear and imminent path to profitability. These are often overlooked "hidden gems" that the rest of the market has stopped looking at. Our thesis has been tested and proven over the last few years, and our proof points keep improving as the portfolio matures.

Strong Road has a performance culture. It is a place for those who believe in themselves and want to be part of a small team of A players. Impatience for mediocrity is welcome. You can expect professional honesty and a high volume of high-quality work from each of your peers. Your voice will be welcome, and expected, from day one.

The Role

We are hiring a part-time Investments MBA Intern to sit with the investment team and drive the top of our deal funnel. This is a sourcing seat first and a diligence seat second. You will report directly to the investment team and work alongside the partners, not several layers removed from them.

Because we are an emerging manager, the companies in our pipeline are ones we find ourselves. There is no inbound flow from a brand name to sort through. The person in this role builds and maintains the machine that finds those companies, qualifies them, and keeps every data point about them organized and current in our CRM. Roughly 60% of your time will be sourcing, 25% infrastructure and operations, and 15% diligence support, though that mix will flex week to week with what is live (i.e., 100% on diligence support during a live deal).

This is a real seat with real ownership, not a shadowing program. The market maps you build and the companies you surface will go directly in front of the partners and into our investment process.

What You'll Own
Sourcing (primary focus)
  • Build market maps and company landscapes in our target sectors — identifying the full universe of players, segmenting them, and pressure-testing which ones fit our thesis of $20–$100M revenue businesses with mature unit economics.
  • Screen and qualify companies against our investment criteria — revenue scale, growth rate, unit economics, capital efficiency, ownership structure, and whether the business has genuine AI tailwinds or is simply adjacent to them.
  • Run systematic outbound to founders and management teams — researching the right point of contact, writing outreach that a busy CEO will actually read, and following up with discipline.
  • Identify and map warm paths into target companies — investors, operators, advisors, and other connectors who can make an introduction, and flagging those paths to the team.
  • Set up and join introductory calls with founders, capturing the business model, financial profile, and growth story accurately.
  • Develop investment theses and sector points of view — short written pieces on where we should be hunting and why, which then direct the next round of sourcing.
  • Track competitive and financing activity in our sectors so we know who is raising, who is stalling, and where a growth check is genuinely wanted.
Infrastructure & Operations

Our CRM is a strategic asset, not just a system of record. Attio serves as the foundational workflow layer for our investment team; the efficacy of our sourcing engine is directly tied to the sophistication of our data architecture. You will own the execution of this layer alongside our Head of AI.

  • Architect and maintain our proprietary sourcing intelligence engine, ensuring comprehensive data integrity across firmographics, funding velocity, and cap table dynamics.
  • Orchestrate the integration of disparate proprietary data sources into our CRM to build a unified, high-signal deal flow environment.
  • Engineer automated pipeline workflows to maintain deal integrity, ensuring real-time visibility into conversion funnels and key decision metrics.
  • Ensure systematic capture of all interaction data to maintain an accurate, searchable history of the firm's network and outreach activity.
  • Drive quantitative funnel analysis — analyzing conversion rates, source effectiveness, and sourcing latency to continuously iterate on and optimize our investment engine.
  • Build the diligence base case on companies that advance — historical financials, revenue quality, cohort and churn analysis, unit economics, and the core KPIs that actually govern the business.
  • Size markets and assess competitive position with primary and secondary research.
  • Prepare and participate in diligence calls with customers, former employees, and industry experts; document them clearly and pull out what informs/changes our view.
  • Draft sections of investment memoranda and supporting exhibits for GP review.
  • Support ad hoc analysis on live opportunities and portfolio questions as they come up.
What We're Looking For
  • Second-year full-time MBA candidate who can reliably commit 10–20 hours per week around a class schedule.
  • Pre-MBA experience in growth equity, private equity, venture capital, investment banking, management consulting, or an operating role at a high-growth company. You should already be able to read a P&L and form a view.
  • Genuine sourcing instinct. You are comfortable doing volume outreach, you are not deterred by silence, and you would rather find ten companies nobody else is looking at than review one that came in over the transom.
  • Obsessive about data hygiene. You find an incomplete record irritating. You will notice a duplicate company and fix it without being asked. Prior hands‑on CRM experience (Attio, Affinity, Salesforce, HubSpot, or similar) is a strong plus; if you have not used Attio, you should be someone who picks up new tools quickly and thoroughly.
  • Strong written communication. Much of your output is written (e.g., outreach, call notes, market maps, memo sections) and you'll need to be able to write in a clear and specific manner.
  • Self-directed. This is a remote, part‑time seat on a small team. You will be given context and objectives, not a task list, and you are expected to manage your own week and flag when something is off track.
  • Real interest in the lower and middle end of growth equity — profitable‑ish, capital‑efficient, founder‑led businesses. If your interest is exclusively in venture‑stage moonshots, this will not be a fit.
Why Strong Road, Why Now

You will be one of the first people to join the investment team outside the founding partners. The sourcing process you help build is the one the firm will use for years. You will see how a fund actually gets built (the thesis, the pipeline, the diligence) from a seat close enough to the partners to learn all of it, which is not something a summer program at an established platform can offer. Interns who perform will be considered first for future roles at the firm.

Terms
  • Classification Part‑time, hourly, non‑exempt. This is not a salaried or full‑time position.
  • Hours 10–20 hours per week, scheduled around your academic commitments, with a standing weekly check‑in with the investment team.
  • Compensation Hourly rate commensurate with experience.
  • Location Remote. Candidates in the New York City or Boston areas are preferred for occasional in‑person work.
  • Confidentiality You will have access to non‑public company and fund information and will be required to sign a confidentiality agreement.
