Job description

A leading long/short equity investment firm is seeking an experienced, hands-on AI professional to work directly with its portfolio managers and research analysts in San Francisco.

This role offers the opportunity to take ownership of developing and implementing AI-powered applications that enhance fundamental investment research. You'll partner closely with investment professionals to understand their workflows, identify opportunities to leverage emerging technologies and build practical solutions that directly impact the investment process.

This is a hybrid role with 4 days on-site and 1 day remote.

Responsibilities include:

• Partner directly with portfolio managers and research analysts to identify opportunities to leverage AI across fundamental investment research
• Independently design, build and implement AI-powered applications and automated workflows, taking projects from initial concept through deployment and adoption
• Leverage large language models (LLMs), retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), AI agents and related technologies to develop practical investment research tools
• Work with structured and unstructured financial information, including alternative data, company filings, earnings transcripts and other research sources
• Evaluate and refine applications for accuracy, reliability and effectiveness, incorporating direct feedback from investment professionals
• Take ownership of solutions through implementation, ensuring they are integrated into the investment team's daily workflows

Ideal background:

• Strong Python development skills and demonstrated experience independently building and deploying AI/LLM-powered applications
• Hands-on experience with LLM APIs, RAG, AI agents and related frameworks
• Experience taking AI applications from concept through implementation, with an emphasis on practical, real-world use
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to translate complex business needs into technical solutions
• Excellent communication skills and comfort working directly with investment professionals and other stakeholders
• Experience in hedge funds, asset management, financial technology or investment research is a plus, but not required
