Qualifications

Job description

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Portfolio Trader supports the day-to-day implementation and maintenance of client investment portfolios. This role executes routine money market and fixed income trades, monitors cash and account activity, and helps complete scheduled and as-needed rebalancing. Working closely with the investment, advisory, and operations teams, the Portfolio Trader reviews account exceptions, maintains accurate trading records and workflows, and follows through on issues so portfolios remain aligned with client needs and firm guidelines.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Money Market Trading & Cash Management – Execute routine money market trades, monitor cash balances, and assist with maintaining appropriate cash levels across accounts.
  • Fixed Income Tracking & Trading – Track existing fixed income positions, monitor maturities and other activity, and assist with routine fixed income trading and implementation.
  • Rebalancing Support – Assist with quarterly and non-quarterly rebalancing by executing trades, monitoring completion, and identifying any exceptions or accounts requiring additional attention.
  • Daily CRM / Trading Workflow Management – Manage daily trading-related tasks and requests in our CRM system, keep workflows moving, and ensure items are followed up on and completed.
  • Account Audits & Maintenance – Perform routine account audits, including reviewing excess/deficient cash, Eclipse maintenance, tolerance issues, and other trading-related items.
SKILLS & COMPETENCIES
Technical
  • Working knowledge of portfolio trading, rebalancing, cash management, fixed income activity, and the trade lifecycle.
  • Ability to use trading and portfolio management systems, including Eclipse, to review accounts, execute trades, and monitor exceptions.
  • Proficiency with Excel and custodial platforms to analyze positions, cash balances, account activity, and trading data.
  • Understanding of investment adviser compliance, trading controls, and the secure handling of client information.
Communication
  • Communicates trade status, account exceptions, and follow-up needs clearly and promptly to advisors and colleagues.
  • Documents trading decisions and workflow updates accurately in the CRM and other firm systems.
  • Asks focused questions, listens carefully, and escalates issues when guidance or approval is needed.
Detailed and Organized
  • Checks trade details, cash levels, maturities, and account restrictions carefully before taking action.
  • Tracks multiple requests and deadlines while keeping daily trading workflows current and complete.
  • Maintains accurate records and follows established procedures for audits, exceptions, and account maintenance.
  • Prioritizes time-sensitive work without losing sight of recurring reviews and follow-up items.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field
  • One to three years of relevant investment analysis, portfolio management, trading, or wealth management experience
  • Proficiency with trading platforms (Eclipse experience is a plus), portfolio management systems, performance reporting, trading, research, and custodial platforms
  • Familiarity with compliance requirements and the handling of highly confidential client and investment information
  • Progress toward the CFA charter is advantageous
  • Clean regulatory background
