Investment Engineer, Technical Investments

Our client is a tier-1 global, climate-focused investment firm backing the businesses and assets required to deliver the energy transition and a net-zero economy. The firm invests across energy, industrial decarbonisation, circular economy, and climate infrastructure, and operates with a highly hands‑on, thesis‑driven approach.
The team combines deep technical expertise with institutional investment discipline and works closely with management teams to scale complex technologies and infrastructure platforms across multiple geographies.
The firm is seeking an Investment Engineer to join its Investment team. This is a senior, VP‑equivalent role for an individual who combines deep engineering capability with an investor mindset and strong commercial judgment.
The position is responsible for leading technical due diligence across new investments, supporting underwriting and investment committee decision‑making, and contributing to post‑investment value creation. You will assess projects and platforms from development through delivery and into operations, translating technical risk into clear commercial and investment outcomes.
Two technical focus areas are being hired in parallel:
- Process Technologies
- Power Systems
- Lead technical evaluation of prospective investments, including validation of design, performance, cost, schedule, and scalability assumptions
- Identify key technical, delivery, and operating risks and translate these into investment recommendations
- Support investment committee materials and underwriting through clear, structured technical input
- Review EPC, O&M, PPA, grid connection, and related project agreements
- Advise on bankability, risk allocation, and long‑term operating exposure
- Support negotiations alongside investment and legal teams
- Act as a senior technical representative with developers, contractors, advisors, and lenders
- Build trusted external relationships to support origination and execution
- Provide post‑investment technical oversight, performance monitoring, and risk mitigation
- Identify optimisation and value creation opportunities across the portfolio
- Industrial, materials, waste, and circular economy platforms including anaerobic digestion, recycling, advanced materials, and thermal or chemical conversion technologies
- Assessment of feedstock risk, process reliability, scale‑up pathways, and operating performance
- Renewable generation, energy storage, and emerging power technologies
- Grid connection, transmission access, and system design considerations
- Construction, commissioning, and delivery risk assessment
- 10+ years’ experience in engineering, infrastructure, or energy transition sectors
- Background in Process, Chemical, Mechanical, Electrical, or Power Systems Engineering
- Experience leading technical due diligence for complex assets or technologies
- Strong commercial judgment with comfort influencing investment committee decisions
- Clear, structured communicator with strong written skills
- Ownership‑driven, entrepreneurial mindset with curiosity for climate technologies
- Would we consider a candidate who is about to complete an MBA or similar graduate programme, and hoping to pivot into finance? > YES.
