Our client is a global Private Equity firm based in Boston. The firm invests in all types of private equity funds, including venture capital and leveraged buyout funds in addition to directly in operating companies.

The Job!
As the Director of Engineering, Investment Data & Analytics, you will combine hands‑on technical expertise with ownership of major data platform domains. Working closely with investment professionals, quantitative researchers, engineers, and business stakeholders, you will translate complex investment problems into scalable data systems that reach production and drive meaningful adoption.
- Own the architecture, design, and delivery of data pipelines and data models across complex financial and economic datasets.
- Lead the development of reliable, secure, and scalable cloud data platforms supporting investment, fund, and portfolio workflows.
- Establish engineering standards for data accuracy, lineage, quality, testing, observability, and service levels across critical investment datasets.
- Design and operate complex batch and incremental data-processing solutions within production environments.
- Lead architecture and technical design decisions while making thoughtful trade-offs around scalability, performance, reliability, and maintainability.
- Partner directly with investors and quantitative researchers to translate ambiguous investment questions into practical, production‑ready technical solutions.
- Lead significant technical workstreams from concept through implementation and adoption.
- Mentor and develop engineers, lead design and code reviews, and establish engineering standards that strengthen overall technical quality.
- Develop data products and platforms that support investment, finance, and operational teams.
- Contribute to technology‑driven investment processes and solutions involving private‑market data, portfolio monitoring, and evolving data and AI capabilities.
What You Bring to the Job
You are a technically accomplished and strategically minded engineering leader who thrives at the intersection of data, technology, and investing. You can move confidently between hands‑on engineering, architecture, technical leadership, and conversations with investment professionals, translating complex business problems into scalable and reliable technology solutions.
- 8+ years of data engineering and software delivery experience preferred.
- 3–5 years of technical project leadership experience, including direct partnership with investment, finance, and operations teams.
- 3+ years of experience working within a hedge fund, investment firm, asset manager, or similar investment environment.
- Proven experience designing, building, and operating cloud data platforms in production, including complex batch and incremental processing.
- Advanced proficiency with SQL and Python.
- Strong experience with Snowflake or equivalent cloud data warehouses.
- Hands‑on experience with DBT and pipeline orchestration technologies such as Dagster, Airflow, or equivalent tools.
- Strong experience with Azure data tooling and cloud infrastructure.
- Deep knowledge of data modelling, ETL/ELT frameworks, data quality, testing, lineage, observability, and production support.
- Demonstrated ability to make sound architectural decisions and technical trade‑offs within complex production environments.
- Proven experience leading significant technical workstreams end‑to‑end and delivering data products used by investment, finance, or operations teams.
- Demonstrated experience mentoring engineers, conducting design and code reviews, and establishing engineering standards.
- Strong problem‑solving skills with the ability to translate ambiguous investment or business requirements into technical solutions.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or an equivalent technical discipline preferred; a Master's degree in Computer Science or related discipline is considered an asset.
Expected Compensation: USD $220,000 – $230,000 Base + 0–40% Discretionary Annual Bonus
