Garry Executive Search has been retained by an established, independent-minded wealth management firm in the Minneapolis metro, recognized as a Forbes Best-in-State Wealth Management Team for 2026, to recruit a Director of Investments to lead its investment management process.
The Director of Investments will serve as the firm's internal expert on portfolio construction, asset allocation, and investment research, partnering closely with advisors to deliver investment outcomes for clients and leading the firm's Investment Committee. This is a firm expanding into more complex client investment scenarios, including alternatives and direct indexing, that needs a true subject matter expert and investment strategist, not just an executor.
What You'll Be Doing
- Lead development and ongoing refinement of the firm's investment philosophy, portfolio management process, and strategic and tactical asset allocation models
- Conduct research and due diligence across mutual funds, ETFs, separately managed accounts, and alternative investments, leading manager selection and monitoring
- Analyze client portfolios and provide investment recommendations to advisors, including performance analysis, risk assessment, and benchmark comparisons
- Partner with advisors on complex client cases involving concentrated positions, tax considerations, and retirement income strategies
- Execute monthly trades and quarterly rebalancing, and process advisory account paperwork, transfers, and funding
- Lead and facilitate the firm's Investment Committee, and mentor advisors and planning staff on investment matters
- Present on investment strategy and alternative investments directly to clients
Background They're Looking For
- 3 to 10 years of experience in fund analysis, fund research, or portfolio management, with solid coverage across equities, fixed income, and alternatives
- SIE, Series 6, 63, and 7 licenses
- CFA, CIMA, or similar designation preferred but not required
- Strong client-facing presentation skills, comfortable speaking to investment strategy and alternatives directly with clients
- Comfortable executing trades and managing rebalancing independently
- Collaborative team player, this is not a solo operator role
- Long-term minded, the firm values tenure and stability
- $150,000 base salary, with a 10% target bonus structure (approximately $15,000 at target)
- Total compensation target of approximately $165,000, with flexibility toward $175,000 for the right candidate
