Job description

This position is eligible for incentive compensation and has a maximum incentive opportunity of 20% of base salary.

The CalSTRS Investments Branch is seeking an experienced individual to work as an Investment Officer III on the Investment Data Solutions team.

Investment Services is comprised of the following divisions within the Investment Branch: Operations, Performance and Analytics, Compliance, Data Solutions, and Business Services. The division provides essential first-level oversight functions across all investment strategies, supporting the entire investment lifecycle through trade and cash management, portfolio reconciliation, and performance analytics.

Under the general direction of the Associate Portfolio Manager, the Investment Officer (IO) III serves as a high-level investment specialist responsible for supporting the Investments Branch with development of critical functions of data engineering, architectural and key application. In this role, the IO III applies advanced investment knowledge to support the design, governance, and optimization of data resources that support portfolio management across the total fund. The incumbent ensures that investment data is accurate, timely, governed, and fully accessible to support investment decision-making across the total portfolio, including both public and private investments. The incumbent will be responsible for performing the following complex duties requiring the highest degree of independence, confidentiality, creativity and discretionary judgment while demonstrating effective oral and written communication skills, and professional knowledge of investment applications.

The ideal candidate will possess the following skills:

  • Knowledge of investment principles and practices, investment types and markets
  • Knowledge of best practice project management principles and methodologies
  • Knowledge of technological concepts and language
  • Knowledge of data management concepts, data quality automation, and data file/stream management
  • Experience in application development SDLC, testing and oversight
  • Experience in quality assurance and quality control
  • Ability to work cross functionally among all CalSTRS asset classes and with internal and external clients
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • CFA or CAIA certification

An incumbent who possesses a professional certification as a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) may receive a 5% monthly base pay differential.

In July 2025, the State of California implemented the Personal Leave Program 2025. This program reduces employees’ monthly base pay in exchange for paid leave credits. This position is subject to PLP 2025 and will have a monthly base pay reduction of 3% in exchange for 5 hours of leave credits for the duration of the program. The salary ranges shown on this job posting do not reflect the reduced amounts.
