Job description

Richmond, Virginia or Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

Full-Time

Salary Range: $80,000 - $100,000

Heritage Wealth Advisors is seeking an Investment Associate to join our investment team. This 2–3 year rotational role offers broad exposure across the full investment platform — public and private markets, portfolio management, and implementation — with meaningful responsibility from the start.

As an Investment Associate, you’ll work alongside experienced investment professionals and contribute directly to public and private market research, portfolio management, trading and implementation, investment reporting, and platform operations.

The role combines real investment responsibility with mentorship from senior professionals, with the ability to take on expanded scope over time. You’ll continue to develop your technical skills, investment judgment, and perspective as you grow into greater ownership of the work.

The Work
  • Research public markets, contributing to analysis of securities, investment strategies, managers, and market trends while supporting ongoing investment monitoring.
  • Evaluate private investments, conducting manager research, due diligence, analysis, and ongoing monitoring of private market opportunities, including investments within the firm’s internally managed diversified pooled investment fund.
  • Support portfolio management and implementation, assisting with portfolio monitoring, rebalancing, cash management, and trading, with growing responsibility for how investment decisions move from strategy into client portfolios.
  • Analyze portfolios and performance, contributing to portfolio reporting, performance analysis, data reconciliation, and investment-related materials used by the investment team and advisors.
  • Serve sophisticated clients, preparing portfolio analyses, investment materials, and other deliverables that help senior investment professionals support families, foundations, and institutions.
  • Build fluency across the investment platform, working directly with investment models, research resources, portfolio systems, databases, and the processes that keep investment information accurate and reliable.
  • Contribute to investment projects, working on initiatives that advance the firm’s research, technology, reporting, investment processes, and broader platform capabilities.
  • Elevate the team, contributing to knowledge transfer and helping incoming team members develop.
The Associate We’re Looking For
  • You’ve started building an investment foundation and want to go deeper, with an interest in understanding markets, managers, strategies, and how portfolios are constructed.
  • You think analytically, enjoying the process of working with data, evaluating information, identifying patterns, and developing thoughtful conclusions.
  • You want broad exposure, drawn to work that spans public markets, private investments, portfolio management, trading, and investment operations rather than focusing on a single asset class or function.
  • You embrace new technology, including AI-enabled tools, and look for ways to improve research, analysis, efficiency, and accuracy.
  • You take ownership of the details, recognizing that accuracy, organization, and follow-through matter when working with investment and portfolio information.
  • You operate with increasing independence, asking thoughtful questions, seeking feedback, and taking work further with each iteration.
  • You collaborate naturally, bringing integrity, accountability, and intellectual curiosity to a team that learns and works together.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, economics, accounting, mathematics, or a related field.
  • 1–3 years of relevant experience in investment management, financial services, consulting, or a related field.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and comfort organizing, analyzing, and manipulating financial and investment data.
  • Strong analytical and quantitative capabilities.
  • Demonstrated interest in and exposure to public and private markets.
  • Strong attention to detail, organization, and ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills.
  • High degree of integrity, professionalism, accountability, and commitment to quality.
  • Financial modeling experience and familiarity with portfolio or research systems (e.g., FactSet, YCharts, Tamarac, or similar) are a plus.
  • Progress toward the CFA charter is viewed favorably.
Growth & Development

The Investment Associate role is structured as a 2–3 year rotational program spanning the firm’s investment functions.

Associates work across the investment platform with ongoing mentorship from senior professionals and direct exposure to each function. Responsibility increases with experience and demonstrated capability, with later-stage Associates taking on more independent work.

The program is designed to develop well-rounded investment professionals with experience across the full investment platform. At the conclusion of the rotation, high-performing Associates may be considered for continuing opportunities at Heritage based on performance, capabilities, career interests, and business needs.

The anticipated salary range for this position is $80,000 - $100,000, based on experience and capabilities, with additional bonus potential.

Heritage also offers:
  • Comprehensive medical, dental, vision, life, AD&D, and disability insurance.
  • 401(k) with profit sharing.
  • Financial support for professional development, certifications, continuing education, and leadership development.
  • Paid vacation, sick leave, and holidays.
  • A flexible and supportive work environment.
  • Parental and family leave.
  • Access to Heritage resources, internal expertise, professional networks, and thought leadership opportunities.
