Job Summary

The Child Welfare Investigative Specialist investigates reports of criminal conduct involving allegations of felony child abuse and/or neglect, which may have resulted in serious injury or death of a child. Responsibilities include conducting home visits, documenting interviews, testifying in court, and assisting staff with registries and databases. The role requires independent judgment within supervision and adherence to county investigation protocols.

Job Duties

  • Assess, respond to, and investigate criminal conduct reports, collaborating with stakeholders, generated by the Child Abuse Hotline
  • Conduct interviews, gather documents, and record interactions in the Statewide Automated - Child Welfare Information Systems
  • Testify in court about investigations
  • Support cases involving severe child abuse or death; employ sensitive investigation techniques
  • Participate in meetings, including high-profile staffing
  • Perform additional related duties

Knowledge of

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):

  • Arizona laws on Special Victims, Forensics, Homicide, Domestic Violence, Missing Persons, or related law enforcement areas
  • Multidisciplinary approaches, including Child and Family Advocacy Centers
  • Child Welfare practices and policies on child abuse and neglect
  • High-profile, complex, and sensitive investigation techniques

Pre-Employment Requirements

Employment is contingent upon passing a background check. Valid driver’s license and ability to obtain a DPS Fingerprint Clearance Card are required. In-state travel and use of personal transportation may be necessary, with mileage reimbursement possible.
