Job summary

Office of the Colorado State Public Defender in Colorado is looking for an Investigator I to support defense teams. You will learn policies and procedures under supervision, organize case files, and assist with witness interviews and evidence collection.

You will work closely with attorneys to develop defense strategies, manage timelines, and document all activities in detail while upholding ethical standards and confidentiality.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice or related field required.
• Must demonstrate written and oral communications skills.
• Substitution: four years of equivalent experience may substitute for education.

Responsibilities

• Learn procedures and develop skills organizing case files and citations.
• Assist in investigations, gather information, and interview witnesses.
• Collaborate with attorneys to support defense strategy and case work.
• Maintain regular communication with attorneys and update case status.
• Document all aspects of work and maintain ethical compliance.
• Travel within Colorado and occasional out-of-state travel as needed.
• Attend trainings and perform other duties as assigned.
