Job summary

NYC Department of Finance Sheriff’s Office is seeking an Investigator to serve in the Manhattan Law Enforcement Bureau. The role acts as the primary liaison between the Sheriff’s Office and the NYC Human Resources Administration, ensuring timely, accurate case information and generating reliable reports for leadership.

The ideal candidate has strong analytical and organizational skills, with experience in investigations or data-driven roles, and must meet civil service qualification

Responsibilities

• Collect, verify, and maintain up-to-date information from HRA to support timely case processing.
• Maintain and update files, orders, and databases for accuracy and availability of case records.
• Track and compile data to produce reports for the Sheriff and First Deputy upon request.
• Report investigation results clearly and accurately.
• Utilize computer systems to process, track, and analyze investigations.
• Examine and analyze records and documents to identify relevant information and discrepancies.
• Perform administrative tasks such as answering phones, filing, and organizing documentation.

NYC Department of Finance (DOF) is responsible for administering the tax revenue laws of the city fairly, efficiently, and transparently to instill public confidence and encourage compliance while providing exceptional customer service.

DOF’s Sheriff’s Office serves and enforces court mandates, orders of protection, warrants, decrees, and property seizures. Additionally, the Sheriff’s Office conducts criminal investigations of real property fraud, tax crimes, and the trafficking of illegal and untaxed tobacco products and synthetic narcotics, and monitors defendants referred by the courts for electronic monitoring.

The Sheriff Office is seeking an Investigator to serve in the Manhattan Law Enforcement Bureau. The ideal candidate will also serve as the primary liaison between the NYC Sheriff's Office and the NYC Human Resources Administration (HRA), ensuring that all case-related information is accurate, up to date, and processed in a timely manner. This role requires strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to manage sensitive information while providing reliable statistical and investigative reports to leadership.

Responsibilities

• Collect, verify, and maintain up to date information from HRA to support timely case processing.
• Maintains and updates files, orders, and databases to ensure the accuracy and availability of case records.
• Track and compile data to produce comprehensive reports for the Sheriff and First Deputy upon request.

Additional Information

In compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and to complete the required employment eligibility verification document form upon hire.

This position may be eligible for remote work up to 2 days per week, pursuant to the Remote Work Pilot Program agreed between the City and the Collective Bargaining Unit representing employees serving in the civil service title.

Minimum Qualifications

• A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and two years of satisfactory, full-time experience as an investigator evaluating credit worthiness, searching for assets, verifying information concerning education, experience, and other personal qualifications bearing upon character and fitness for employment; or performing investigations involving the research, compilation and/or location of evidence or information in order to build a case or uncover activities of a criminal, corrupt, unlawful or unethical nature; or
• An associate degree or 60 semester credits from an accredited college; or
• Education and/or experience equivalent to "1" or "2" above. Undergraduate college credit can be substituted for experience on the basis of 30 semester credits, from an accredited college, for one year of full-time experience. However, all candidates must have at least a four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent.
