Qualifications

• Excellent writing and reporting skills with ability to turn data into accessible stories.
• Strong understanding of statistics and statistical analysis.
• Experience obtaining, cleaning and analyzing federal/state datasets.
• Familiarity with Python or R; knowledge of JavaScript visualization (D3, Svelte).
• Bachelor’s degree with journalism coursework; 5+ years in journalism, preferably on federal/regulatory topics.

Responsibilities

• Search for, acquire and analyze data to inform breaking or longer-term stories.
• Explain findings to reporters, editors and readers with clear visuals.
• Collaborate with the newsroom's creative team to visualize data using JavaScript libraries.
