Job summary

Bloomberg Industry Group in Arlington, VA, is seeking a Data Reporter to help write and visualize stories with impact. You’ll dig into data to uncover the story and present findings clearly to reporters, editors and readers.

You’ll work with Python or R for data work and collaborate with a creative team and newsroom colleagues to produce data-driven investigations and compelling visuals using JavaScript libraries like D3 and Svelte.

Qualifications

• Excellent writing and reporting skills with the ability to make data-driven stories accessible.
• Strong understanding of statistics and statistical analysis.
• Knowledge of federal and state legislative, regulatory, and judicial processes.
• Experience requesting, cleaning, and analyzing multiple datasets.
• Familiarity with Python or R; strong visualization using JavaScript (D3, Svelte).
• Bachelor's degree in journalism or equivalent experience.
• 5+ years of experience in journalism, preferably with federal legislative/regulatory coverage.

Responsibilities

• Search for, acquire and analyze data in pursuit of breaking and longer-term stories, with an eye for disruptions in the legal, financial, and government arenas.
• Challenge yourself and others, exploring new technologies and finding new methods for storytelling to produce investigative stories with impact.
