Job summary

The New Jersey State Commission of Investigation seeks an Investigative Counsel to plan, develop, organize and supervise fact-finding investigations under the guidance of the Commissioners and the Executive Director.

Qualified candidates must have a law degree from an accredited school with NJ bar admission in good standing and 3–5 years of practice, preferably in prosecutorial or complex investigative work, with exceptional writing and communication skills.

Qualifications

• Three to five years practicing attorney, preferably in prosecutorial work or investigations.
• Excellent writing and communications skills; ability to manage multiple assignments.

Job description

Investigative Counsel leads investigations including organized crime and racketeering, the conduct of public officials and employees and any other matters concerning the public peace, safety and justice.

Responsibilities

Under the general guidance of the four Commissioners of the State Commission of Investigation and the specific direction of the Executive Director and Director/ Special Counsel, Investigative Counsel shall plan, develop, organize and supervise fact-finding investigations.

Qualifications

Qualified candidates should possess a thorough knowledge of state and federal law and practices.

Exceptional writing and communications skills. Demonstrated ability to handle multiple assignments simultaneously. Experience in supervising professional and other staff, including investigators, in performing assigned duties and in meeting program goals.

EDUCATION:

Graduate of an accredited law school. Holding of a current license in good standing to practice law in the State of New Jersey.

EXPERIENCE:

Three to five years as a practicing attorney, preferably in prosecutorial work in law enforcement and/or in the conduct of complex civil or other types of fact-finding investigations.

LICENSE:

Membership in the New Jersey State Bar Association.
