Job summary

NEWSWELL at Arizona State University seeks an audience producer to help a statewide investigative team maximize reach and impact. You will identify opportunities, guide processes, and build internal tracking and public-facing documentation about the effects of our work.

This role takes journalism to the people. Collaborate with senior statewide reporters and NEWSWELL's local newsrooms, bringing innovator, teacher and collaborator sensibilities to the role while expanding audience engagement

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or master's degree in journalism or related field.
• Deep familiarity with how to reach people across platforms - web, social, direct outreach, nontraditional forms.
• Experience in visual production, shooting or producing your own images, video, social media content or work on other platforms beyond written stories.
• Experience reporting, editing or producing in California and the West.
• On-camera experience or video production.
• Events planning and management.

Responsibilities

• Writing stories related to solutions or outcomes from our reporting.
• Creating or managing graphics, databases, printed materials or other items that connect audiences with our work.
• Conducting outreach to connect with stakeholders or new audiences.
• Brainstorming, organizing and executing community events, speaker forums, demonstrations or other public events.
• Mentor and coach local newsrooms and collaborate on local reporting.
• Use multiple digital publishing formats when appropriate.
• Pilot new tools, including responsible AI, to enhance research and workflow efficiency.
• Partner with ASU’s Walter Cronkite School for student engagement opportunities.
