Job summary

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 1 year of storekeeping, warehouse, shipping/receiving, or inventory control experience (Technician I).
  • 3 years of storekeeping, warehouse, shipping/receiving, or inventory control experience (Technician II).

Responsibilities

  • Receive, inspect, sort, store, and issue inventory items, tools, parts, materials, and equipment.
  • Verify incoming shipments against packing lists and purchase orders.
  • Maintain inventory records, stock counts, delivery logs, receiving reports, and requisition documentation.
  • Process inventory transactions using inventory management systems and tracking software.
  • Operate District vehicles and material handling equipment such as forklifts, pallet jacks, hand trucks, and carts.
  • Load, transport, unload, and deliver materials, supplies, equipment, and internal mail to various District locations.
  • Maintain warehouse and stock areas in a clean, safe, and organized condition.
  • Follow established safety procedures and comply with District policies.
  • Provide internal customer service support for inventory and delivery requests.
  • Perform administrative and operational tasks related to warehouse and inventory control functions.

Role Overview

The Inventory Control Technician I/II supports warehouse, inventory, materials distribution, and internal courier operations for Valley Water. The role is responsible for receiving, storing, tracking, issuing, and delivering materials, tools, equipment, supplies, and mail to District facilities while maintaining accurate inventory records and ensuring safe warehouse operations. The position also supports internal customers through efficient delivery services and inventory management.

Key Responsibilities

Required Experience

Inventory Control Technician I

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • One (1) year of storekeeping, warehouse, shipping/receiving, or inventory control experience.

Inventory Control Technician II

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Three (3) years of storekeeping, warehouse, shipping/receiving, or inventory control experience.

Preferred:

  • Warehouse and distribution operations.
  • Internal courier or logistics support.
  • Material receiving, storage, and inventory replenishment.
  • Operating forklifts, pallet jacks, hand trucks, or similar equipment.
  • Inventory tracking systems and electronic inventory management software.
  • Working in a public agency, utility, municipal, or service-oriented environment.
  • Delivery routing and customer service support.
Required Skills

  • Inventory Control Technician I: Ability to obtain District Forklift Certification within six (6) months of appointment.
  • Inventory Control Technician II: Possession of District Forklift Certification.

Preferred

  • Coursework or training related to warehouse operations, logistics, supply chain, inventory management, or distribution services.
