Oversee materials planning, purchasing, inventory control, storage, and distribution to support company operations and customer requirements. Lead the Purchasing and Inventory teams, manage supplier relationships, and ensure materials and services meet quality, cost, and delivery expectations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Procurement and Supplier Management
- Manage purchasing, inventory control, and material requirements planning (MRP), overseeing procurement from initial request through delivery.
- Evaluate material requirements, including preliminary specifications, preferred suppliers, and delivery timelines.
- Negotiate pricing, contract terms, and service guarantees to secure high-quality goods and services at competitive costs.
- Develop and maintain supplier relationships while upholding the highest standards of business ethics.
- Ensure purchased materials arrive on schedule, at negotiated prices, and in accordance with company quality standards.
- Prepare and issue purchase orders and change notices. Review purchase orders, claims, and contracts for compliance with company standards.
- Assign procurement requests to appropriate team members and recommend suppliers to internal stakeholders.
- Develop and maintain work instructions for purchasing systems and procedures.
- Prepare procurement reports and detailed analyses of purchased goods.
Inventory and Warehouse Operations
- Oversee receiving, warehousing, storage, and internal distribution of materials and supplies.
- Maintain appropriate inventory levels to support operational needs, including emergency material requirements.
- Monitor and report monthly inventory levels for raw materials, work in process (WIP), and finished goods.
- Review and report quarterly on slow-moving, obsolete, and non-moving (SON) inventory.
- Coordinate the disposal of surplus materials.
Cross-Functional Coordination and Continuous Improvement
- Partner with Manufacturing, Engineering, and other departments to resolve daily issues involving schedules, production methods, materials, and designs.
- Support Manufacturing in planning production workloads and staffing requirements.
- Identify, document, and implement opportunities to improve processes and operational efficiency.
Team Leadership and Compliance
- Assign responsibilities, monitor work quality, and provide direction to Purchasing and Inventory personnel.
- Monitor team performance, identify issues, and implement corrective actions.
- Ensure team activities comply with organizational policies, procedures, and applicable government regulations.
- Follow applicable U.S. laws, environmental and safety regulations, and corporate business ethics guidelines.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned. Responsibilities may evolve based on business needs.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
- Three years of related experience or equivalent.
- Demonstrated ability to supervise, motivate, and lead a team.
- Ability to interpret and negotiate contracts.
- Experience with shipping and receiving operations.
- Familiarity with supply chain and inventory management systems.
- Working knowledge of SAP Materials Management (SAP MM).
- Understanding of forecasting and budgeting.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem‑solving abilities.
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
- Working knowledge of data collection, analysis, evaluation, and the scientific method.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret scientific and technical information, financial reports, and legal documents.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
This position regularly requires sitting; using hands and fingers to handle or feel objects; and talking or hearing. Occasional walking, reaching with hands and arms, and moving items weighing up to 25 pounds are required. Vision requirements include close vision and color vision. The work environment is generally quiet.
