Job summary

The Port of Virginia in Norfolk, VA is seeking an Inventory Control Assistant to manage spare parts inventory and support Maintenance and Operations.

Responsibilities include receiving, storing, picking, issuing, cycle counting, and delivering parts, with forklift and truck duties, in a 24/7 operation.

Qualifications include a High School diploma or GED, a valid driver's license, TWIC, and at least one year of relevant experience.

Qualifications

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel and Outlook.
• Forklift operation and truck driving for deliveries in support of operations.
• One year of relevant inventory experience.
• Valid driver’s license and TWIC credential.

Responsibilities

• Ensures compliance with all security, safety and environmental regulations and policies within work area at all times.
• Verifies and keeps records on incoming shipments and deliveries.
• Applies knowledge of inventory system to complete basic tasks such as receiving, storing, picking, issuing, and cycle counting inventory items.
• Unpacks and examines incoming shipments, rejects damaged items, records shortages, and contacts shipper to rectify damages and shortages.
• Puts away parts to designated location; picks parts and prepare for delivery.
• Issues parts to Maintenance and other departments using inventory system.
• Drives delivery vehicle to transport parts to terminal locations throughout Hampton Roads, including the loading and unloading of parts and materials.
• Records and monitors all items with shelf-life daily and notify appropriate personnel when material has expired.
• Prepares monthly reports for cycle count and pick-lists count for monthly highlights.
• Provides customers with timely updates on the status of their orders, including backorders, delays, or fulfillment issues.
• Works with other departments to ensure inventory needs are met.
• Other duties as assigned.
• The Port of Virginia is a 24-hour, 7-day-a-week, 365-day-a-year operation, schedule and location may vary based on the needs of the operation.
