Job summary

UPMC Memorial is seeking an Invasive Cardiac Technologist to support the Cath Lab. The role offers a choice of a 4-day 10-hour shift or a 5-day 8-hour shift with rotating on-call coverage. A sign-on bonus is available for eligible new hires.

Responsibilities include patient identification, procedure assistance under physician direction, maintaining aseptic technique, radiation safety, PACS documentation, and collaboration with care teams across departments.

Qualifications

  • ARRT Radiologic Technologist (RT-R) or RCIS certification is required.
  • PA Paramedic licensure with current credentialing is required.
  • ACLS and BLS CPR certifications are required or obtained within orientation.

Responsibilities

  • Identify patients using two identifiers and follow universal protocol.
  • Explain procedures to patients to alleviate anxieties and gain cooperation.
  • Collaborate with department and other teams to expedite patient care.
  • Maintain point-of-care testing standards and daily QC.
  • Provide stand-by call coverage as scheduled.
  • Administer contrast under physician direction.
  • Demonstrate competency in first assist position.
  • Ensure aseptic technique and time-out adherence for patient safety.
  • Position patients correctly and manage radiographic techniques.
  • Code and track all images in PACS and ensure accurate charges.

Job description

UPMC is seeking an Invasive Cardiac Technologist to support the Cath Lab at UPMC Memorial

Location: UPMC Memorial

Employment Type: Full-Time

Schedule: Flexibility to choose between a 4-day work week with 10-hour shifts from 7:00 AM to 5:30 PM, or a 5-day work week with 8-hour shifts from 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM. (Rotating on-call requirement to cover weekday off shifts, holidays or weekends).

Purpose:

Performs imaging procedures at a technical level not requiring constant supervision. Competently performs a variety of technical procedures that require independent judgment, ingenuity and initiative.

Responsibilities:
  • Identifies all patients properly by using two patient identifiers and utilizes universal protocol when performing procedures. Reviews patient history and assesses physician orders, applying specific departmental protocols for optimal results in the acquisition of data. Documents patient history in electronic record as required

  • Demonstrates the ability to communicate instructions to patients in a clear and concise manner and explain procedures to help allay the patients fears and solicit their cooperation

  • Demonstrates a strong ability to interact with both patients and co-workers, while displaying a high level of caring, listening, dignity and respect. Able to work as team member within the department and all other departments to expedite patient care efficiently

  • Maintains point of care testing standards, including daily quality control, for devices used for procedures.

  • Provides stand by call coverage, as scheduled, in accordance with system-wide stand by call procedure/policy.

  • Administers contrast under the direction of the procedure physician.

  • Demonstrates competency in functioning in the first assist position.

  • Fosters an environment that supports aseptic technique during procedures and patient safety with the incorporation of a time-out process.

  • Practices with attentiveness to radiation safety for the patient as well as others in the procedure room including appropriate use of lead shielding and monitoring devices. Assures documentation of patient radiation exposure in electronic record.

  • Demonstrate proper positioning and appropriate radiographic techniques for all diagnostic and interventional procedures. Exhibits a clear understanding of correct patient preparation, equipment operations and patient monitoring systems.

  • Support other departments as directed or assigned. Must demonstrate a basic knowledge of the operation of both equipment and supplies. Some responsibilities may not be applicable due to specific job locations.

  • Ensures all images within his/her area of responsibility are properly coded and tracked through the PACS, and are properly networked to appropriate electronic record for archival and interpretation, and all charges are adequately entered for the procedures performed. Maintains continuing education and competency requirements for position.

Graduate of an ARRT approved school of Radiologic Technology (RT-R) or Invasive Cardiovascular Specialist (RCIS) or Invasive Cardiovascular Specialist (RCIS) certification or certified/licensed as a Paramedic in the state of Pennsylvania with current credentialing maintained.

Bachelor of Science in health care related filed accepted but not required.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

ARRT certified as a Radiologic Technologist or RCIS as a Cardiovascular Specialist or certified/licensed as a Paramedic in the state of Pennsylvania is required. CPR certification is required. ACLS certification is desired upon hire. Successful completion of ACLS certification required within orientation period. New graduates have 1 year to obtain their board certification.
