Job summary

UPMC Shadyside Cath Lab is seeking a full-time Invasive Cardiac Technologist to join our team in Pittsburgh, PA. This role supports diagnostic and interventional cardiac procedures and requires on-call duties with hospital access within 30 minutes.

Shifts include 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM (8-hour) or 7:00 AM - 5:30 PM (10-hour), Monday through Friday, with on-call coverage typically scheduled monthly. A $10,000 sign-on bonus is offered to eligible hires.

Responsibilities

• Codes and tracks images in PACS; ensures proper network to electronic record and correct procedure charges
• Maintains continuing education and competency requirements
• Interacts with patients and staff with care, respect, and professionalism
• Reviews patient history and orders; applies departmental protocols for data acquisition
• Maintains daily quality control for point-of-care devices used in procedures
• Communicates instructions to patients clearly and relays procedure details to ease anxiety
• Demonstrates correct positioning and radiographic techniques for diagnostic/interventional procedures
• Exhibits competency in first assist during procedures
• Fosters aseptic technique and patient safety with time-out process
• Administers contrast as directed by the procedure physician
• Provides stand-by call coverage as scheduled per policy
• Adheres to radiation safety practices and documents patient exposure

Schedule

• Full-time, Monday through Friday
• Choose from:
  • 8-hour shifts: 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM
  • 10-hour shifts: 7:00 AM - 5:30 PM
• On-call responsibilities for emergency procedures are required
• Employees must be able to arrive at the hospital within 30 minutes while on call
• Call coverage is typically 7-10 days per month and is scheduled on a monthly rotation

Responsibilities:

• Ensures all images within his/her area of responsibility are properly coded and tracked through the PACS, and are properly networked to appropriate electronic record for archival and interpretation, and all charges are adequately entered for the procedures performed.
• Maintains continuing education and competency requirements for position
• Demonstrates a strong ability to interact with both patients and co-workers, while displaying a high level of caring, listening, dignity and respect.
• Reviews patient history and assesses physician orders, applying specific departmental protocols for optimal results in the acquisition of data. Documents patient history in electronic record as required
• Maintains point of care testing standards, including daily quality control, for devices used for procedures
• Demonstrates the ability to communicate instructions to patients in a clear and concise manner and explain procedures to help allay the patient’s fears and solicit their cooperation
• Demonstrate proper positioning and appropriate radiographic techniques for all diagnostic and interventional procedures.
• Exhibits a clear understanding of correct patient preparation, equipment operations and patient monitoring systems
• Demonstrates competency in functioning in the first assist position
• Fosters an environment that supports aseptic technique during procedures and patient safety with the incorporation of a time-out process
• Administers contrast under the direction of the procedure physician
• Support other departments as directed or assigned.
• Must demonstrate a basic knowledge of the operation of both equipment and suppliesSome responsibilities may not be applicable due to specific job locations
• Provides stand by call coverage, as scheduled, in accordance with system-wide stand by call procedure/policy
• Practices with attentiveness to radiation safety for the patient as well as others in the procedure room including appropriate use of lead shielding and monitoring devices.
• Assures documentation of patient radiation exposure in electronic record.
